BMW 8 Oil Pressure Alert: Warning Signs & Next Steps
Summary of the thread
A 2022 BMW 8 diesel with 180,000 km is experiencing oil pressure warnings and engine noises, indicating potential oil pressure control issues. The problem is likely due to a failing oil pump, possibly with a stuck pressure relief valve and worn components, which can lead to severe engine damage if not addressed. The recommended solution is to replace the oil pump assembly and flush the system to prevent further damage. It's advised to stop driving the vehicle until repairs are completed to avoid catastrophic engine failure.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, it's really helpful since the symptoms sound exactly like what I'm experiencing with my 8. I've already parked it to be safe, using other transport for now. Would you mind sharing what you paid for the repair? Also curious if you've had any other issues pop up since they fixed the oil pump?

Glad I could help! Just wanted to update you, I got my car back from the mechanic last week, and the oil pressure warning is completely gone. The repair cost me 755 € for the oil pump replacement, which included parts and labor. I know it's not cheap, but considering what could've happened to the engine if left unfixed, it was worth every penny. Since the repair, my 5 Series has been running smooth as silk, no more rattling noises, no warning lights, nothing. The engine feels much healthier now, especially during those cold starts that used to worry me. Haven't had a single issue pop up since the fix, which is a relief. I definitely made the right call getting it sorted quickly, just like you're doing now. If you need any other info about the repair process, just let me know.

Just wanted to update you on my BMW situation. Finally got it sorted at a mechanic I found through a. You were spot on, it was the oil pump causing all the trouble. Cost me about 800 for the whole job, bit more than yours but I guess that's fair for the newer model. Really glad I followed your advice and didn't drive it. The mechanic said the same thing about potential engine damage. They got it done in two days, and I've been driving it for a week now, running perfectly! No more weird noises or warning lights. Thanks again for sharing your experience. It really helped me make the right decision and saved me from stressing too much about it. Good to know these BMWs have similar issues and there's a straightforward fix.

Hi! I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW 5 Series diesel last spring. The oil pressure warning started appearing intermittently at first, then became constant. There was also that distinctive rattling noise, especially during cold starts. Turned out the oil pump was failing, the pressure relief valve was stuck and the pump itself had worn components. These symptoms are quite serious since low oil pressure can cause catastrophic engine damage if not addressed quickly. The pump is a critical component that ensures proper oil circulation throughout the engine. In my case, they had to replace the entire oil pump assembly and flush the system to remove any metal debris. The repair was rather extensive and included some preventive work since they had to access deep parts of the engine. My advice would be to stop driving the car if possible, as running the engine with low oil pressure can cause severe damage. It's not something you want to postpone dealing with. Best of luck with the repair.
