BMW G8: Multiple Sensor Failures, Rain/Light/Wiper Issues

Having issues with my 2022 BMW 8 G-series. Rain sensor, auto lights, speedo dimming, and wipers not working properly. Error message showing up. Anyone dealt with a similar problem and had it fixed? Thinking it might be the rain-light sensor but wanted to hear your experiences and repair solutions before heading to the workshop.

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs as an occasional DIY mechanic. Had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW 7 Series (also owned a 5 Series). Those symptoms sound really familiar, I dealt with bubbles forming under the gel pad where the rain sensor sits on the windshield. This messed with all those auto functions you mentioned. Took it to my workshop and they confirmed the sensor wasn't making proper contact due to those bubbles. They replaced the gel pad and recalibrated the sensor. Cost me 62 Euro and everything's working perfectly since then. What's your mileage and have you noticed any moisture or unusual spots on your windshield near the sensor area? This info would help determine if you're facing the same issue.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm at 197464 KM and just had my regular service done recently. I've been checking the windshield around the sensor area and noticed a small cloudy patch that wasn't there before. Think you might be onto something with that gel pad issue. Did they have to order the part or was it something they had in stock? Also, nice to hear it was a relatively simple fix!

Hey again! Yeah, that cloudy patch you're describing is exactly what I noticed on mine before getting it fixed. In my case, the workshop actually had the gel pad in stock, it's apparently a common enough issue with our BMWs that they keep them handy. But honestly, that might vary depending on where you go. At 197K km, you're right around where these sensors can start acting up, mine started showing these symptoms at about 180K km. The good news is that the fix is pretty straightforward. In my case, they had me back on the road within a couple of hours. Just make sure they do the recalibration after replacing the pad, that's crucial for getting all those auto functions working properly again. By the way, after they fixed mine, I noticed the auto headlights were way more responsive than they'd been for months before the obvious issues started. Guess the sensor had been gradually degrading without me really noticing. Let me know how it goes when you get it sorted!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's super helpful, especially about the recalibration part, definitely going to mention that when I take it in. Really interesting what you said about the headlights becoming more responsive after the fix. Now that you mention it, mine have been a bit sluggish lately, so maybe this has been creeping up on me too. I'll give my regular workshop a call tomorrow and see if they've got the gel pad in stock. Fingers crossed it's as straightforward as your repair was! Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's given me a much better idea of what to expect. I'll try to remember to update you once I get it sorted!
