BMW i4 Height Control Warning: Owner Seeks Solutions

Hey everyone! Having some trouble with my 2021 BMW i4 (14,624 km) that's really starting to concern me. My headlights seem misaligned, and I've noticed the car sitting unevenly, front and rear height don't match up. There's also a warning light on the dash, and the diagnostic shows a height control error. After a previous disappointing experience with my mechanic, I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar height control issues on their i4? What was the actual problem and how did you get it fixed? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations for addressing this. Thanks!

I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW iX3 last month. The symptoms matched yours exactly, uneven stance, headlight misalignment, and that pesky height control warning. Took it to the garage where they diagnosed a faulty control rod sensor in the air suspension system. It was causing incorrect readings, making the car's computer adjust the height incorrectly. The repair involved replacing the sensor and recalibrating the entire suspension system. This isn't something you should ignore. A malfunctioning height control system can lead to uneven tire wear and potentially affect your vehicle's handling and safety. The repair was fairly complex as they needed specialized diagnostic equipment to properly reset the system. In my case, it took about two days to fix because they had to order the specific sensor. Once fixed, the car went back to its proper stance and all warning lights cleared up. Make sure you get this checked by a certified BMW technician who has experience with electric vehicle systems.

Wow, thanks for sharing your experience! That's exactly what I needed to hear as I'm dealing with the same nightmare right now on my i4. Really helpful to know it was the control rod sensor in your case. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up? I'm trying to get a sense of whether I should expect any follow-up issues.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up about the costs since you asked. I had it fixed last week and it cost me 110 € to replace the control rod sensor. And I've got good news, everything's been running perfectly since then! The "Height control restricted" warning is completely gone and hasn't come back. The car's sitting nice and level now, no more wonky stance, and those headlight alignment issues have sorted themselves out too. Really happy with how it's all turned out. I can actually enjoy driving my iX3 again without constantly worrying about that warning light on the dash. I've put about 500 km on it since the repair and haven't noticed any other issues popping up. The suspension feels just like it did when the car was new. Honestly, considering how much I was stressing about it, the fix turned out to be pretty straightforward. Just make sure you get it sorted, these things can get worse if you leave them too long. Hope this helps with your decision! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair.

Thanks so much for all the details! I bit the bullet and took my i4 to a different mechanic yesterday. Turns out you were spot on, it was indeed a faulty sensor causing all the drama. The repair was a bit pricier than yours but totally worth it. The mechanic was super professional and got everything sorted in just one day. What a relief to see my car sitting properly again! The headlights are perfectly aligned now, and that annoying warning light is finally gone. The mechanic also did a full system check and gave me the all-clear. Not gonna lie, I was pretty nervous after my last bad experience with repairs, but this time it went smoothly. Took it for a test drive today and it feels like I'm driving a new car. No more weird noises or uneven ride. Should've done this weeks ago instead of worrying about it. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get it fixed!
