BMW i4 Multiple Warning Lights: Brake Switch Investigation

Hey, thanks for the brake pedal tip! I've got 88673 KM on my i4, and had my last service about two months ago. I actually tried your suggestion with the firm brake press, but unfortunately, the warnings are still popping up. They seem pretty unusual, sometimes at startup, other times while driving. The error codes keep coming back even after clearing them. Thinking it might be worth taking it to a certified EV technician at this point. The brake light issue is particularly concerning since it's a safety component. Has anyone else needed to replace their brake light switch on their i4?

Hey again! Sorry to hear the brake pedal trick didn't solve your issue. You know, after I suggested that initial fix, I actually ended up having a similar persistent problem with my iX later on, even after trying the firm brake press. In my case, it turned out the brake light switch was indeed faulty, just like you're suspecting with your i4. Had to get it replaced at around 95,000 KM. The symptoms were exactly like what you're describing, unusual warnings, persistent error codes, and that annoying brake light malfunction message that kept coming back. The replacement was actually pretty straightforward, took about an hour at the service center. Since then, zero issues! Cost me around 300 bucks including labor, which wasn't too bad considering all the stress those warning messages were causing. Given your symptoms and the fact that clearing the codes isn't helping, I'd say you're on the right track thinking it's the brake light switch. These newer EVs are amazing, but they can be super sensitive to even minor electrical issues. Definitely get it checked out by a certified tech, better safe than sorry with anything brake-related! Let me know how it goes. Always interested in hearing what fixes work for fellow BMW EV owners.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to know that you had a similar issue with your iX and got it resolved with a brake light switch replacement. That's exactly what I was suspecting with my i4, and hearing your story makes me feel more confident about my diagnosis. Going to schedule an appointment with the certified BMW service center tomorrow. The 300 dollar estimate doesn't sound too bad at all, especially considering how much these unusual warnings have been stressing me out. You're absolutely right about being cautious with brake-related issues, definitely not something I want to take chances with. Really appreciate everyone's input on this. I'll make sure to update the thread once I get it sorted out, in case anyone else runs into similar issues with their i4 in the future. These EVs are fantastic cars, but dealing with electrical gremlins can be quite the adventure sometimes! Thanks again for all the help!

Hey there! I have some experience working on EVs and went through something similar with my 2023 BMW iX. Those electrical gremlins can be super annoying! Actually, had almost identical symptoms, and you know what? It turned out to be something really simple. After a bunch of worrying, I discovered I wasn't fully pressing the brake pedal when starting the car. The system needs that firm brake press to properly initialize. Once I started doing that, all those warnings disappeared. Before you take it to a shop, try this: With the car in park, press the brake pedal all the way down firmly when starting the car. Hold it for a couple of seconds before releasing. Mind sharing if you've noticed any pattern when these warnings appear? Like, do they show up right at startup or while driving? Also, what error codes is your car showing? This info would help me give you more specific advice.
