BMW i5 Electrical Warning & Dead Nav System Issues

Hey all, having some trouble with my new 2024 BMW i5. The car displays a general electrical malfunction warning and the navigation system is completely dead. I suspect it might be related to Transport Mode being active. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their i5? Specifically interested in hearing about workshop diagnoses and fixes. Let me know what was done to resolve it.

Hey there! I've got some experience with EVs (some experience level). Had a similar issue with my 2022 BMW i4 last year. Those electrical warnings can be nerve-wracking! Funny enough, Transport Mode was exactly the culprit in my case. Since my i4 was brand new, the dealer took care of it right away under warranty, didn't cost me a penny. They just had to deactivate Transport Mode and do a complete system reset. Before you head to the workshop, could you share: Did this start happening right after getting the car? Are you seeing any other warning lights? Can you still drive the car normally? I also own a BMW iX, and these electrics can be tricky sometimes. Happy to help troubleshoot further once you share those details!

Thanks for chiming in! Yeah, this just started happening last week, about 2 months after I got the car. Currently at 127218 KM and had my service just last month. No other warning lights showing up, and the car drives perfectly fine, it's just that annoying warning message and the dead nav system that's bugging me. Your experience with the i4 sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Good to know it was a simple fix in your case. I've got a warranty appointment scheduled for next week, but was getting a bit anxious about it. Makes me feel better knowing it might just be that Transport Mode issue. Did your system reset affect any of your stored settings or profiles?

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details. Yeah, this does sound super similar to what I experienced with my i4. Since you mentioned it's been 2 months since you got the car and it was running fine until now, I'm thinking it might be slightly different from my transport mode situation, mine happened right from the start. When they did the system reset on my i4, I did lose some of my stored settings, stuff like seat positions, radio presets, and climate preferences. Nothing major though, and it was worth it to get everything working properly again. Just make sure to take some mental notes of your important settings before the appointment. The fact that it's driving fine is actually a good sign, just like in my case. The nav system being dead is super annoying though, I feel your pain! When they fixed mine, it took them about half a day to sort everything out. I'm really curious to hear what they find at your warranty appointment. Would you mind updating me after they check it out? It would be helpful to know if they find something different from what I experienced. These new EVs can be quite quirky sometimes!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! That's really helpful to know about the settings getting cleared, I'll definitely take some photos of my important preferences before heading to the workshop. I was worried it might be something more serious, but hearing your experience makes me feel much better about it. And yeah, absolutely, I'll update you after my appointment next week! It's great to connect with other BMW EV owners who've dealt with similar quirks. Even though it might not be exactly the same transport mode issue as yours, at least I know these electrical gremlins are usually fixable. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and tips!
