BMW iX Washer Nozzle Heating Problems, Solutions Needed

Hey everyone, my 2023 BMW iX has been acting up with the windshield washer system. Getting error messages and noticed the spray nozzles are either freezing up in cold weather or getting too hot. Pretty sure it's related to the washer heater, but want to get some real-world feedback. Has anyone dealt with this issue? What did the repair shop do to fix it? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Let me know your experiences.

Hi there! I have some experience working on EVs and faced a similar issue with my 2021 BMW i4 last winter (my second BMW after the i3). The washer heater symptoms sound exactly like what I dealt with. Took it to my regular workshop and they found a loose connection in the washer heater wiring harness. The cable had worked itself loose due to vibration. Total repair was 95 Euro, mostly labor since they had to access some awkward spots. They secured the connection properly and added some protective wrapping to prevent future issues. Before I can give more specific advice about your iX, could you share: When did you first notice the problem? Does it happen only at certain temperatures? Have you checked if the washer fluid level is full? Any other warning lights showing up? Let me know these details and I can hopefully point you in the right direction!

Thanks for the detailed response! I noticed the issue about 2 weeks ago when temperatures started fluctuating. The fluid level is full and I've checked it multiple times. My iX just had its latest service, and with 51178 KM on the clock, I wouldn't expect these kinds of problems yet. No other warning lights showing up, it's just the washer system giving me grief. The error message comes up out of nowhere, regardless of temperature, which is what made me think it might be more of an electrical issue than just freezing. I'll definitely have them check the wiring harness based on your experience. Really hoping it's something simple like that!

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your iX. Your symptoms really do match what I experienced with my i4. The unusual error messages regardless of temperature, that's exactly what tipped off my mechanic about the electrical connection being the culprit rather than just a basic freezing issue. You know what's interesting? My i4 was also fairly new when this happened, around 48000 KM. These EVs are amazing pieces of tech, but sometimes these little electrical gremlins pop up. The fact that it started after temperature changes makes sense, the thermal expansion and contraction probably made that loose connection act up more. Since you've had recent service, I'd definitely mention this to your workshop. They might even cover it under warranty since it's such a new car. When they fixed mine, they actually found that the protective sleeve around the wiring had slightly shifted, exposing the cables to more movement than intended. Quick tip from my experience, while you're waiting to get it checked out, try not to use the washer system if you get the error message. I learned the hard way that continuing to use it when the heater's acting up can potentially cause more issues. Let me know how it goes! I'm curious if it turns out to be the same problem as my i4.

Thanks so much for all this helpful info! It's actually reassuring to hear someone else had such a similar issue with their BMW EV at around the same mileage. I've already called my workshop and booked it in for next week, mentioned everything you told me about the wiring harness and protective sleeve. They seemed pretty familiar with the issue when I brought it up. You make a great point about not using the washer system when the error shows up, I'll definitely avoid that until it's fixed. Really smart tip about the warranty coverage too, I hadn't even thought about that! Will make sure to bring it up when I take it in. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It's made me feel much better about the whole situation knowing it's likely just a straightforward fix. I'll probably pop back on here after the repair to share what they found, in case anyone else runs into the same problem.
