BMW iX2: Multiple Climate and Sensor Problems

Hey everyone! My 2024 BMW iX2 is acting up with several issues that seem connected. The main problems are non-working temperature display, malfunctioning climate control, and inactive mirror heating. I suspect it's the outside temperature sensor, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their iX2? What did your workshop diagnose and how was it fixed? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially regarding repair time and solutions. Looking forward to your insights!

I have some experience with EVs and had a similar issue with my 2022 BMW iX3. I feel your pain! The symptoms were exactly the same as what you're describing. After taking it to my regular workshop, they found a loose connection in the wiring harness that connects to the external temperature sensor. The fix wasn't too complicated, they had to remove some panels, locate the faulty connection, and properly secure it. Total repair time was about 2 hours and cost me 95 Euro. Since then, everything's working perfectly. I also own a BMW i4, but never had such issues with that one. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you share: Has this started suddenly or gradually? Have you noticed any warning messages on the display? Did you recently have any work done on the car? Let me know these details, and I might be able to help further!

Hey, thanks for jumping in! Yep, this just started happening suddenly last week. No warning messages showed up before or during the issues, which is what's making it extra puzzling. Haven't had any recent work done either, last service was at 194,749 km and everything was fine then. Your experience with the wiring harness issue is really helpful to know. Since my symptoms match yours so closely, I'll definitely get that checked out. Did your workshop need to order any special parts, or was it just a repair job? Just trying to figure out if I should expect my car to be in the shop for longer than those 2 hours you mentioned.

Good to hear back from you! On my iX3, it was just a repair job, no new parts needed, which was a relief. The loose connection was actually behind the front bumper cover, and they just had to reseat and secure the connector properly. That's why it only took about 2 hours. But here's something interesting, when my issue first started, I actually tried cleaning the sensor area myself thinking it might just be dirty or had some ice buildup. Didn't help at all, which confirmed it was definitely the connection issue. The fact that yours started suddenly, just like mine, really points to the same problem. Just a heads up though, even though my fix was straightforward, your workshop might want to run a full diagnostic first, which could add an hour or so to the total time. Mine did that just to rule out any other potential issues with the climate control module. By the way, has your car been through any deep puddles or heavy rain recently? That's what my mechanic thought might have caused my connection to come loose in the first place. Though it could just be general wear and tear too. Keep me posted on what you find out!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! Actually, now that you mention it, we did have some really heavy rain last week right before the problems started. That could definitely be the culprit! I'll mention this to the workshop when I take it in tomorrow. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with the diagnostics too, I'll make sure to let them know about the connection issue behind the bumper cover. At least now I know what to expect time-wise, and it's a relief to hear it might not need any parts. I was worried I'd be looking at some expensive sensor replacement! I'll skip trying to clean it myself and just let the professionals handle it. Will definitely update you once I get it sorted. Thanks again for all your help, it's been super useful having someone who's dealt with the exact same problem!
