Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's super helpful since I'm dealing with almost the exact same thing right now. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up? Would really appreciate knowing what to expect cost-wise and if I should watch out for any related issues down the line. Thanks again!

Hey again! Glad I could help! Just wanted to follow up, I actually got this fixed last week and the total came to 195 € for the steering angle sensor coding. The mechanic basically reset and recalibrated the sensor, no parts needed replacing in my case which was a relief for my wallet! Since the repair, my M4 has been running like a dream, all those warning lights disappeared and the steering feels normal again, nice and responsive like it should be. No more heavy steering or shaking, and I haven't noticed any other issues pop up. I actually worried it might be something more serious (and expensive!), but the sensor calibration sorted everything out. Just make sure you get it done by someone who knows their way around BMW's diagnostic systems, that's really important for these kinds of electronic fixes. Super happy I got it sorted quickly before it could cause any other problems. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you're looking at!

Thanks for all the details! Just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to update you on what happened with my M2. Turns out my issue was a bit different, had to replace both the sensor and some worn-out steering components. Ended up costing more than your repair, around 780 for parts and labor. The mechanic showed me the old parts, and they were pretty beat up. Got to drive it home today, and what a difference! The steering's back to normal, smooth and responsive. No more warning lights or that annoying shake in the wheel. Feel like I got my car back, honestly. Really appreciate everyone's input here. Having your experience as a reference helped me feel more confident about getting it fixed, even though my problem needed a bit more work. At least now I know what to watch out for in the future! Take care!

Hey there! I had nearly identical issues with my 2018 BMW M4 last year. The steering angle sensor coding fault is no joke, it caused similar symptoms with heavy steering and multiple warning lights (ESP, ABS, brake). When I brought it to the garage, they diagnosed a faulty steering angle sensor plus misalignment. The technician explained that the sensor lost its calibration and wasn't communicating properly with the car's systems. The fix involved replacing the sensor unit and performing a complete recalibration of the steering system. While this isn't a catastrophic issue, it definitely requires proper diagnosis and repair by someone who knows BMW systems well. It's not something you want to ignore, as it affects critical safety systems. In my case, the repair process took about half a day. Since you're getting similar symptoms, I'd recommend getting it checked soon. Make sure whoever works on it has the right diagnostic equipment for BMW coding and calibration. Good luck with the repair.
