BMW M2 Owners: Engine Mount Issues and Vibrations?
Summary of the thread
A BMW M2 owner is experiencing increased vibrations, rough idle, and a check engine light, suspecting a faulty engine mount. Another BMW owner shares a similar past issue, which was caused by a loose sensor plug rather than the engine mount. The suggestion is to check the sensor connections first, as it could be a quicker and less expensive fix. The M2 owner plans to have the sensors checked, potentially saving time and money.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My M2 is at 90697 KM and had its last service about 3 months ago. It's interesting you mention the sensor plug because I've noticed the vibrations get worse when the engine is warm, which wasn't happening before. I was pretty set on it being the engine mount, but your sensor issue makes me think twice. Did you notice any specific timing with your vibrations too? The repair cost you mentioned sounds way better than what I was expecting for an engine mount replacement. Might be worth getting the sensors checked first.

Hey again! Yeah, absolutely, when you mention the vibrations getting worse with a warm engine, that's exactly what happened with my M4 too! It was really frustrating because it would start off feeling relatively normal in the morning, but after about 15-20 minutes of driving, the vibrations would become super noticeable. Since you had your service just 3 months ago, I wonder if something got knocked loose during that work. In my situation, I initially went down the engine mount rabbit hole too, even convinced myself I could feel the engine moving more than usual. But when the mechanic hooked up the diagnostic computer, it pointed straight to that sensor connection issue. The repair was surprisingly quick too, took them about an hour to sort it out. Much better than the 6-7 hours they quoted me for an engine mount replacement! Given your symptoms are so similar to what I experienced, I'd definitely recommend getting those sensors checked first. Could save you a bunch of money and headache. Just curious, have you noticed any difference in fuel consumption lately? With my sensor issue, I was burning through fuel a bit faster than usual. Might be worth checking if you're experiencing the same thing.

Thanks so much for that detailed follow-up! You've actually made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. Now that you mention it, I have noticed my fuel consumption has gone up recently, I thought I was just driving more aggressively! I'm definitely going to get those sensors checked out first. The similarity between our situations is pretty striking, especially with that warm engine behavior. I've just booked an appointment with my workshop for next week. I'll make sure to mention the sensor connection issue you had, might save them some diagnostic time. You've probably saved me a lot of money and stress here. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in such detail. I'll update the forum once I know what the actual problem is, might help someone else down the line!

Hi there! I have some experience working on BMWs. I actually had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW M4 last year. The symptoms you're describing sound really familiar. In my case, it wasn't the engine mount, turned out to be a loose connection in one of the sensor plugs. The workshop found the faulty wiring connection during diagnostics. Got it fixed for about 95 Euro, and the vibrations and rough idle completely disappeared. Could you share your current mileage and if you've noticed any other symptoms? Also, have you had any recent work done on the car? This info would help pinpoint whether you're dealing with the same issue I had. Before going to the workshop, I actually tried checking the engine bay myself, but with these modern BMWs, it's best to let the pros handle it. Feel free to ask any other questions!
