Hey, thanks a lot for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since I'm dealing with the exact same symptoms. Good to know it was the alternator in your case, sounds like that might be my issue too. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or did you run into any other related issues? I totally agree about finding a specialist, these M3s can be tricky beasts. Appreciate the heads up about getting the diagnostic results first too. Thanks again!

Hey again! Happy to update you! After getting it fixed at the specialist, my M4 has been running like a dream, no more electrical gremlins whatsoever. The repair set me back 960 € for the complete fix, which included diagnosing and replacing the faulty generator. Money well spent if you ask me, considering how crucial this part is. It's been about a year since the repair, and I haven't had a single issue with the electrical system. Battery's holding charge perfectly, lights are nice and bright, and the car starts up first try every time. The warning lights are all gone too, which is always a good sign! Trust me, getting it sorted by proper BMW specialists was the right call. They knew exactly what they were dealing with and fixed it right the first time. No more worries about getting stranded with a dead battery. Let me know how you get on with yours, always interested to hear how these repairs work out for others.

Thanks for the follow-up! After your advice, I bit the bullet and took my M3 to a BMW specialist yesterday. what a difference from my previous mechanic! These guys knew their stuff and found the problem right away, it was indeed the alternator. The repair cost me a bit more than yours at around 1100, but they also spotted and fixed a few minor electrical issues while they were at it. Got my car back today, and wow, it's like a different machine! Everything's working perfectly now, strong starts, bright lights, and not a warning light in sight. The mechanic was super professional, showing me the old alternator and explaining exactly what had failed. Even got a detailed report of everything they checked and fixed. Makes me feel much better about spending the money, you know? Thanks again for pushing me to go to a specialist, definitely saved me from future headaches. Really appreciate all your help with this!

Hey there! I had almost identical issues with my 2014 BMW M4 last year. The symptoms are classic alternator failure, my car also had dim lights, hard starts, and battery warnings. The alternator wasn't charging the battery properly, which explains all these problems. Got it checked at a BMW specialist garage. They ran diagnostics and confirmed the alternator was failing. In my case, the voltage regulator inside the alternator was shot, requiring a complete alternator replacement. The repair was pretty serious since the alternator is crucial for keeping the battery charged and all electrical systems running. It's not something you want to put off, driving with a failing alternator can leave you stranded when the battery eventually dies. I'd recommend finding a reputable BMW specialist rather than a general mechanic. Ask them to show you diagnostic test results before any work begins. Best of luck with the repair.
