Thanks for sharing your experience! That definitely sounds similar to what I'm dealing with. Really helpful to know about the potential chain reaction, I'll make sure to get it looked at right away. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Hey again! Great to hear back from you. Just wanted to let you know that I got super lucky with my repair situation. After taking it to the shop, they diagnosed that the bypass valve malfunction was actually a consequential error from that thermostat issue I mentioned. Since it was directly linked to the original problem, they fixed it under warranty, didn't cost me a single cent! The best part? Everything's been running like a dream since then. The heating works perfectly now, no more warning lights, and the engine temp stays exactly where it should be. It's been about a year since the repair, and I haven't had even a hint of trouble with any of those systems. The key was catching it when we did and having a mechanic who really knew what they were looking at. They spotted that connection between the thermostat and bypass valve right away, which saved me from having to pay for what could've been labeled as a separate issue. Trust me, once you get yours sorted, you'll notice the difference straight away. Just make sure they do a thorough check of all the connected systems while they're in there.

Thanks so much for all that info! Actually, I just got back from the mechanic today and thought I'd update you. Took your advice and asked them to check everything thoroughly. Turns out my situation was a bit different. The bypass valve itself was fine, but they found a cracked hose that was causing the coolant to leak. That's why my heating wasn't working properly and the engine was running hot. The mechanic showed me the damaged part, it was pretty obvious once they pointed it out. They replaced the hose and did a full coolant flush. Total bill came to a lot less than I was expecting, which was a nice surprise! Already drove it home and the heating's working perfectly now. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, helped me feel more confident about what to ask and look out for at the shop. Glad we both got our heating issues sorted without any major drama!

Hey there! M3 owner! I had similar heating issues with my 2017 M4 last winter. The symptoms you're describing really ring a bell. In my case, what started as a simple thermostat failure led to some serious overheating issues that damaged the water pump. When I took it to the garage, they found that the original thermostat malfunction caused the bypass valve to stick, which then created a chain reaction of problems. The coolant wasn't circulating properly, leading to both the cabin heating issues and engine overheating. The repair was pretty extensive because of the consequential damage. Had I caught it earlier when the heating first started acting up, it would've been a much simpler fix. The mechanic showed me how the failed thermostat basically cooked several other components. If I were you, I'd get it checked ASAP, especially with that warning light. Make sure they inspect both the thermostat and bypass valve, and ask them to check for any damage to the water pump while they're at it. These issues can escalate quickly if left unchecked.
