BMW M4 Power Seats Not Responding, Common Fixes Inside

Hi everyone! Having issues with my 2014 BMW M4 (30,709 KM, gasoline). The power seats are acting up, won't adjust with the ignition on or when starting the engine. Even the saved driver profiles only kick in after engine start. Getting an error code too. Has anyone dealt with similar electric seat problems in their M4? Looking for insights on potential fixes and what to expect at the mechanic, since my last repair experience wasn't great. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey there! Had the exact same issue with my 2017 BMW M3 last winter. The problem was a heavily discharged battery that couldn't provide enough power for the seat memory functions. Found this out after the car also started showing unusual electrical glitches with other systems. Took it to my regular mechanic, and the diagnosis confirmed the battery was at the end of its life. They had to replace the battery and reprogram the car's electrical system. It wasn't just a simple battery swap, BMWs need proper coding after battery replacement. The whole repair was pretty serious since a failing battery can damage other electrical components if left unchecked. Since the fix, all the power seat functions, memory settings, and other electrical systems have been working perfectly. If you're getting error codes along with the seat issues, I'd recommend getting it checked soon to avoid bigger problems. Just my experience, but worth having a professional check it out.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Glad to hear you got it sorted out. I'm actually curious, do you remember roughly how much the whole battery replacement and reprogramming job set you back? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be looking at. Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up?

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, I actually got this sorted last week! The total came to 290 € for the battery replacement and reprogramming work. Honestly, it was worth every penny because everything's running perfectly now, including that annoying passenger seat issue that was driving me crazy. The mechanic confirmed what I suspected, it was definitely the battery causing all those electrical gremlins. Since the fix, all the power functions are working like new. The seat memory settings kick in right away now, and I haven't seen any of those error codes pop up again. It's been about two weeks since the repair, and I've got to say, the car feels completely back to normal. No more electrical quirks at all, feels just like when I first got it. Trust me, if you're having similar issues, getting it sorted sooner rather than later is the way to go. These BMW electrical systems can be pretty sensitive when the battery starts acting up. Just thought I'd update you since we had such similar problems. Let me know if you end up getting yours fixed!

Thanks so much for the update! Actually, I took your advice and got my car fixed yesterday. What a relief! The mechanic found the same battery issue, apparently these BMWs are really picky about their electrical systems. Had to shell out a bit more than you did, but honestly, seeing everything working properly again makes it worth it. When I dropped it off, they were super thorough about explaining the whole battery coding process. Turns out my original battery was completely shot, probably why those seats were acting so weird. Got it all sorted in about three hours, which wasn't bad at all. The best part? My seats now adjust perfectly, even before the engine starts! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it helped me know what to expect. The car's running like a dream now, and no more error codes popping up on the dash. Guess we both learned that when it comes to BMW electrical issues, it's better to just bite the bullet and get it fixed right away! Thanks again for all your help with this!
