BMW Multiple Warning Lights and Dead Steering Controls

Hi all! My 2023 BMW 2 diesel (164,592 km) has been acting up lately. Multiple warning lights keep popping up on the dash (ESP, ABS, brakes), and the cruise control is completely dead. None of the steering wheel buttons work either. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? What was the cause and how much did the repair cost? Thanks in advance for any help!

Had the same problem with my 2020 BMW 3 Series diesel last month. The symptoms were identical, multiple warning lights, dead cruise control, and unresponsive steering wheel controls. Turned out it was a faulty connection in the steering wheel control module. The main cable harness had some wear and wasn't making proper contact. Not a serious mechanical issue, but definitely needed professional attention. The garage replaced the entire steering wheel control module and rewired the connections. The repair was straightforward and took about 2 hours. They also did a full diagnostic scan to ensure no other systems were affected. From my experience, these symptoms strongly point to an electrical connection issue rather than a major mechanical problem. Worth getting it checked soon though, as driving without proper ABS and ESP isn't ideal. Professional BMW-certified garages are your best bet for this type of electrical issue. They have the right diagnostic tools and access to original parts.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's super helpful as I've got pretty much the exact same issue with my BMW. Really good to know it was just the control module and wiring, makes me feel a bit better about the whole thing. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working fine since they fixed it? Just trying to get an idea of what I'm in for and if it's a lasting solution. Cheers!

Hey there! Just wanted to update you on my repair costs and how it's been going. I paid 95 € for the fix, turned out to be just a dodgy cable connection in the steering wheel module that needed sorting. The mechanic did a really neat job with it. The best part? Everything's been working perfectly since then. The cruise control is back to normal (which is such a relief on long drives), and all those annoying warning lights have disappeared. Been about a month now and no issues whatsoever. Really glad I got it sorted when I did, it was a pretty straightforward repair in the end. Actually way less painful than I initially feared, both for my car and my wallet! These electrical gremlins can be a pain, but once you get them sorted, they tend to stay fixed. Trust me, you'll feel so much better once it's done. Those warning lights were driving me crazy before I got it fixed!

Thanks everyone for your input! Just wanted to share how it all turned out. Finally got my BMW sorted last week. Found a really decent mechanic who actually took the time to explain everything. Took it in first thing in the morning, and they spotted the issue right away, exactly what you mentioned about the steering wheel control module. They showed me where the wiring had worn out and was causing all those warning lights to go haywire. The whole thing took about three hours to fix, including testing. Cost me around 120 € total, which wasn't as bad as I'd feared. The mechanic even threw in a full system check just to be sure everything else was running smoothly. Been driving it for a few days now and what a difference! No more warning lights flashing at me, cruise control's working perfectly, and all the steering wheel buttons are responding again. Such a relief! Definitely learned my lesson about not putting off these electrical issues. Really appreciate everyone's advice, helped me feel much more confident about getting it sorted.
