BMW Series 2 Key Fob Issues? Battery Warning Signs Explained

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW 3 Series last month. The keyless system was acting weird, and I got those battery warning messages too. Turns out the main control module for the comfort access system had damaged cable connections, basically, some wires had worn out and weren't making proper contact. The fix wasn't too major, but it needed someone who really knows BMW electronics. They had to replace a wiring harness and reprogram the module. It wasn't just a simple battery replacement like I first thought. The service took about half a day to complete. My advice would be to get it checked soon because these electrical gremlins can sometimes lead to bigger issues if left unchecked. Make sure whoever works on it has the right diagnostic tools for BMWs, that's crucial for these kinds of electrical problems. No need to stress too much though, it's a pretty common issue with these models. Just make sure you find someone who specializes in BMW electrical systems. They'll know exactly what to look for.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful, sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm glad to hear it wasn't a major system failure. If you don't mind me asking, what did you end up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it? Just want to make sure I'm prepared for what to expect cost-wise and if I should watch out for any recurring issues.

Hey again! Just wanted to update you on my repair situation. After getting it fixed last month, everything's been working like a charm! The door handle electronics are back to normal, no more funky business with the keyless entry. Ended up costing me 95 € to fix the cable connection that was acting up. Honestly, it was way less painful (and cheaper!) than I expected. The mechanic found it was just a faulty plug connection that needed sorting out. Since the repair, I haven't had a single problem with the system. No more battery warning messages popping up, and the comfort access is working perfectly. The whole thing was sorted in just a few hours. Trust me, once you get it fixed, you'll feel so much better. These BMWs can be a bit finicky with their electronics, but when they're running right, they're fantastic cars. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you're looking at!

Thanks so much for the follow-up! I actually just got back from getting my car fixed yesterday. You were right, it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be! The mechanic I found was really straightforward and knew exactly what to look for. Turns out my issue was a bit different, had a faulty control module that needed replacing, plus some corroded connections they had to clean up. Bit pricier than yours at around 380 bucks, but still better than I feared. The whole thing took about four hours. Took it for a good drive afterward, and everything's working perfectly now. Door handles respond like they should, no more warning lights, and the keyless entry is smooth as butter. Such a relief! Really appreciate your help and advice, it definitely made me feel more confident about getting it sorted. Sometimes these car problems seem way worse in our heads than they actually are!
