BMW Transmission Grinding: Fix Options & Repair Costs

Hey all! Having some serious transmission troubles with my 2013 BMW 2 (164k km, gas engine). The car barely moves when I hit the gas, making grinding sounds during gear changes, and both the check engine and transmission lights are lit up. The car's running in limp mode now. From what I can tell, it might be the torque converter lock-up clutch, but I'm hesitant about going to a mechanic after a previous bad experience. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Thanks in advance for any help!

Turned out my torque converter was indeed failing. Initially tried to avoid the repair but that was a mistake. The transmission converter issue on mine got worse quickly, and I ended up needing a complete torque converter replacement. It's definitely a serious repair that requires transmission disassembly. The mechanic showed me the worn clutch plates and metal debris in the old converter, pretty scary stuff that could've caused more damage if left unfixed. They had to drop the transmission to replace the converter and also flushed the system to remove any metal particles. The car's been shifting smoothly since then, no more warning lights or strange noises. The whole job took about three days at the shop. Hey again! Yep, I can tell you exactly what it cost me, I paid 2120 € for the whole repair job. And honestly, it was worth every penny because the car's been running like a dream since then! The Automatic transmission torque converter lock-up clutch issue got completely sorted out, and I haven't had a single transmission problem since the repair. It's been such a relief, you know? Had my car towed there last week, and they confirmed it was the torque converter, just like you said. The mechanic was actually really good this time. He walked me through everything they found, showed me the worn-out parts, and explained why the repair was necessary. Way better than my last experience! The final bill came to about what you paid, and though it wasn't cheap, the difference in how the car drives now is incredible.
