Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's got 184959 KM on the clock, and yes, I do hear a slight buzzing noise when turning the key. I just had my service last month, but this started happening recently. The error code I got was P0461, which points to the fuel level sensor circuit. Your fuse suggestion is interesting, definitely a cheaper fix than replacing the entire fuel pump assembly. I'll get it checked out at the shop this week. Really hoping it's just a fuse like in your case!

Hey again! That P0461 code and the buzzing sound you described really rings a bell, it's exactly what I experienced! Given that your symptoms match what I went through, and especially with that buzzing noise, I'm even more convinced it could be the fuse issue like I had. With my 2 Series, I first thought I was in for an expensive fuel pump replacement, but thankfully it turned out to be much simpler. The buzzing noise in my case was actually the fuel pump trying to work with insufficient power due to the partially blown fuse. Since you mentioned you just had service last month, maybe ask them to specifically check the fuse box near the fuel pump relay. In my case, the fuse looked fine at first glance, but it was actually partially melted on the inside. One thing though, with your mileage being quite high, it might be worth having them check the fuel pump's condition while they're at it. My car had lower mileage when this happened, but these things can wear out over time. Let me know what they find! Really curious to hear if it turns out to be the same issue as mine.

Thanks everyone for your help! Just got back from the shop and wanted to update you. You were right about checking the fuse, turns out it was partially melted, just like you described. The mechanic found some minor corrosion in the fuse box too, which they cleaned up. They also tested the fuel pump while they were at it, and fortunately, it's still in good shape despite the high mileage. Total bill came to around 100 bucks including labor, which is way better than what I was fearing! The fuel gauge is working properly now, no more stalling issues, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. Really glad I asked here before assuming the worst about the fuel pump. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it definitely helped me point the mechanic in the right direction. It's such a relief when these things turn out to be simple fixes rather than major repairs!

Hi there! I've got some experience working on BMWs, having dealt with something very similar on my 2015 BMW 2 Series (also had a 3 Series before). Had almost identical symptoms, stuck fuel gauge and stalling issues. Turned out to be a blown fuse in the fuel pump circuit. My workshop found it during diagnostics, and it was a pretty quick fix. Cost me 52 Euro total, including labor. They mentioned these fuses can go bad due to power fluctuations. Could you share more details about the error code you pulled? Also, does your X1 make any unusual noises when you turn the key? This info would help determine if you're facing the same issue I had. Just a heads up, while I'm somewhat familiar with BMWs, it's best to have a professional take a look, especially with these symptoms. Better safe than sorry when it comes to fuel system issues.
