BMW X1 Hybrid Jerking: Misfire or Something Worse?

Hey everyone! Having some trouble with my 2023 BMW X1 Hybrid. When accelerating, the car jerks and has delayed throttle response. Engine runs rough and the check engine light is on. I suspect it might be combustion misfires, but want to confirm before taking it to a workshop. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars, and I actually faced a very similar issue with my 2021 BMW X2 Hybrid (love the BMW brand, also owned an iX3). Based on your symptoms, it sounds exactly like what I dealt with, turned out to be a faulty injector. My car was showing the same signs: jerking during acceleration, rough engine, and the dreaded check engine light. Took it to my trusted mechanic who diagnosed a defective injection valve. The repair, including parts and labor, set me back about 515 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Could you share your current mileage and whether you've noticed any fuel efficiency changes? This info would help confirm if we're looking at the same issue. Also, do you get any specific error codes when the check engine light comes on? Let me know these details and I can share more specific insights about what to expect during the repair process.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X1 has 98795 KM on the clock and had its last service just 2 months ago. I haven't scanned for error codes yet, but yeah, I've definitely noticed the fuel consumption going up lately. The jerking is most noticeable when I'm trying to accelerate from a stop. Going to get those injectors checked out first thing, really hoping it's just that and nothing more serious. The car is still under warranty, so fingers crossed BMW will cover the repair costs if it turns out to be the same issue as yours.

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your X1. Yeah, those symptoms you're describing are pretty much identical to what I experienced with my X2, especially that jerking from a standstill, super annoying, right? Good news is that with your car still under warranty, you're in a much better position than I was. When I had my injector issue, I was just out of warranty, which is why I ended up paying out of pocket. But from what I know, BMW is pretty good about covering these kinds of issues under warranty. Quick tip though, definitely get those error codes read before heading to the dealer. When I had my problem, I actually grabbed a cheap OBD2 scanner from a and the codes helped me have a more informed conversation with the mechanic. The codes on mine pointed straight to the injection system, which made diagnosis much quicker. Just watched your fuel consumption comment, that's exactly what happened with my X2. Was burning through fuel like crazy before I got it fixed. Once they replaced the faulty injector, it went right back to normal. The whole repair took about a day in my case, so hopefully you won't be without your car for too long. Keep us posted on what the dealer says! I'm curious to know if it's the same issue I had.

Thanks so much for all the detailed advice! You're right about getting those error codes, I actually just ordered an OBD2 scanner online after reading your message. Should arrive tomorrow. Really appreciate the tip about using the codes to have a more informed chat with the dealer. It's super helpful to know that your repair only took a day too, that's a relief since I need my car for work. The more you describe your experience, the more convinced I am that we're dealing with the same injector issue. The symptoms match perfectly, especially that annoying jerking from standstill that you mentioned. I'll definitely update this thread once I get it checked out at the dealer. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel a lot more confident about handling this!
