Thanks for sharing your experience! That wiring harness issue definitely sounds similar to what I'm experiencing. It's good to know it wasn't a catastrophic problem. Could you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? Also, has everything stayed working properly since then, or have you noticed any other suspension-related issues coming up?

Hey there! Happy to give you an update about my X3's repair cost and how it's been running. I just had it sorted out last week actually, the mechanic found and fixed the Damping adjustment fault. The total bill came to 95 € which was just for fixing a dodgy cable connection to the component. Pretty reasonable, if you ask me! Since the repair, my car's been running like a dream, the suspension is back to being nice and firm, exactly how it should be. No more warning lights or any other suspension problems cropping up. It's amazing what a proper connection can do! Much better having it fixed now than waiting for it to get worse. The mechanic said these electronic damping systems can be pretty sensitive to any wiring issues, but once they're properly sorted, they tend to stay reliable. Feel free to ask if you need any other details about the repair. Always happy to help another BMW owner out!

Thanks so much for all that detail! I actually just got back from having my X1 checked out at the independent shop I found. Turns out you were spot on, it was an electrical issue, though in my case it was a faulty sensor rather than the wiring harness. The repair was pretty straightforward and cost about half what the dealer quoted me. The mechanic was great, showed me exactly what was wrong and explained everything clearly. No pushy sales tactics or unnecessary add-ons either. Been driving it for a few days now and what a difference! The suspension feels properly firm again, and that annoying warning light is finally gone. Should've done this weeks ago instead of worrying about it. Really appreciate everyone's help on this. Always good to know I'm not alone in dealing with these quirks!

I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW X3 last year. The symptoms were exactly what you're describing, mushy suspension and that annoying warning light. Turned out the wiring harness connecting to the electronic damper control unit was damaged, causing intermittent connection issues. One of the plugs was corroded, and moisture had gotten in. The cable was partially exposed due to worn insulation. Had to replace the entire wiring harness and one damper sensor. It wasn't a huge repair in terms of labor, but it's definitely not something you want to ignore. These electronic damping systems need proper voltage and clean signals to work correctly. Got it fixed at an independent BMW specialist. The car has been perfect since then, firm suspension and no more warning lights. If you're not keen on the dealer, look for a shop that specializes in European cars and has the right diagnostic tools for BMW suspension systems.
