Hey, appreciate you sharing your experience! That's pretty much exactly what happened to mine, the wiring harness issue definitely sounds familiar. Would you mind sharing how much the repair ended up costing you? Just trying to get a sense of what to expect. Also curious if you've had any other problems pop up since getting it fixed? Thanks again for helping out!

Hey again! Happy to update you! Just got mine fixed last week actually, and it was way less painful than my previous repair. The mechanic found it was indeed the hall sensor, specifically a loose cable connection that was causing all the trouble. Only cost me 95 € to fix, which was such a relief compared to what I paid last year for the whole wiring harness replacement! The tailgate's working perfectly now, opens and closes like a charm. No more halfway stops or error messages popping up. Much simpler fix than my previous wiring harness drama. And nope, haven't had any other issues pop up since getting it sorted. The car's running great! Honestly, it's like night and day compared to how it was behaving before. If your symptoms are similar, you might be looking at the same kind of straightforward fix. Just make sure you get a proper diagnosis, sometimes these things can look similar but have different causes. Let me know how you get on with yours!

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! Just wanted to update you on what happened. Finally got my BMW checked out at a different mechanic and wow, what a difference! Turns out it wasn't the hall sensor after all, they found a broken spring mechanism in the tailgate that was causing all the trouble. The repair was pretty quick, only took them about two hours to fix. Cost me a bit more than expected, around 250 bucks total, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The tailgate's working perfectly now, no more strange noises or error messages. Really glad I didn't go back to my old mechanic. The new place did a thorough job and even showed me exactly what was wrong. Thanks again for pushing me to get it properly checked out. Sometimes you just need that extra push to make the right decision!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2013 BMW X3 last year. The tailgate was acting up, sometimes not responding at all, other times only opening halfway. Got it checked, and it turned out the wiring harness had some damaged cables near the hinge area. The constant opening and closing had worn down the protective covering, causing intermittent connection issues. The repair wasn't too complex, but it did require specialized diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact problem. They had to replace the wiring harness and recalibrate the tailgate system. It wasn't a quick fix, took them about half a day to complete everything properly. The hall sensor issue you mentioned can definitely cause these symptoms, but in my experience, it's worth checking the wiring first. These issues can get worse if left unchecked and could potentially lead to more serious electrical problems. Hope this helps with your decision-making!
