BMW X2 Navigation System Failure, GPS & Routing Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2019 BMW X2 is experiencing navigation system issues, including GPS signal loss, slow or failed route calculations, and an error code NAV2771. The problem is suspected to be a faulty GPS antenna, especially since the issues began after a recent service. A suggested solution is to check the antenna connections and consider replacing the antenna if necessary. Additionally, disconnecting the battery for a full power cycle is recommended as a potential fix before proceeding with a dealer visit for antenna replacement.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yup, my X2 started showing these issues about two weeks ago, right after my latest service. Initially thought it was just a temporary glitch but it's persistent now. Getting error code NAV2771 (navigation communication failure). I've done all the basic troubleshooting, system restart, cleared cache, the works, but no luck. Currently at 149057 KM and honestly, this is my first major nav system issue. Might have to bite the bullet and get that antenna checked out like you did. Been avoiding the dealer but seems like that's where I'm headed!

Hey again! Yeah, that NAV2771 error code is exactly what I dealt with on my X1. Since you mentioned it started after your service, I'm even more convinced it's the antenna now. When I had my issue, I actually tried to save some money by first checking if the antenna connections were just loose, sometimes techs can accidentally bump things during service. But nope, in my case, and probably yours too, the antenna itself was the culprit. Quick tip though, before heading to the dealer, you might want to try disconnecting your battery for about 15 minutes. I know you've done the basic resets, but this full power cycle sometimes works wonders with these BMW nav systems. Didn't work for me ultimately, but worth a shot before spending the money. And speaking from experience, while the dealer might be pricier, they usually have the exact antenna part in stock and can get it done in a day. My regular workshop had to order the part which took almost a week. Just make sure they check the wiring harness too while they're at it, sometimes it's not just the antenna itself. Keep us posted on what you find out! These navigation issues can be super annoying, especially when you rely on them daily like I do.

Thanks so much for all the detailed help! The battery disconnect tip is actually something I haven't tried yet, so I'll definitely give that a shot tonight before making any dealer appointments. You're right about these nav issues being a real pain, I use mine daily for work, and constantly having to rely on my phone as backup is getting old fast. I actually called the dealer while waiting for responses here, and they quoted me around 250 for the antenna replacement plus labor. A bit more than what you paid, but I guess that's inflation for you! They can get me in next Tuesday, so I'll try that battery trick first and if it doesn't work, I'll just have to accept the dealer visit. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it's given me a much clearer picture of what I'm dealing with. I'll definitely update once I get it sorted out. These BMW nav systems are amazing when they work properly, so here's hoping I can get back to that soon!

My 2018 BMW X2, since I took a trip outside of Spain, no longer shows its correct location. It places me 400 kilometers away, but doesn't show any errors.

Try checking the GPS antenna connections to ensure they are secure, as they might have been disturbed during your trip. If the connections seem fine, consider performing a full system reset by disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes. This can sometimes recalibrate the GPS system. If the issue persists, it might be best to have a mechanic inspect the GPS antenna and related components. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!

Hey! I had the exact same problem with my 2017 BMW X1 last year (I used to have an X3 before). I have some experience working on cars, mostly basic maintenance stuff. My navigation was acting up just like yours, super slow, couldn't get a signal, and kept showing errors. Took it to my regular workshop, and yep, it was a faulty GPS antenna. They had to replace it completely. Cost me around 200 Euro, but it's worked perfectly since then. Before you take it in, could you share what error code you're getting? Also, when did these issues start happening? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same problem I had.
