Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's definitely helpful to know it was the wiring harness causing trouble. I've been worried about mine too. Would you mind sharing how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues popping up? Really appreciate your help with this! Just want to make sure I'm prepared before taking my X3 in for repairs. Thanks again!

Hey again! I'm happy to report that after getting my X5 fixed, everything's been running perfectly smooth, no more airbag warnings or any other related issues. The rollover sensor is working exactly as it should now. Such a relief! About the cost, I ended up paying 1000 € for the whole job, which included replacing the affected control unit that was faulty. Yeah, it wasn't cheap, but considering it's a crucial safety component, I figured it was worth every cent. You know how these BMW electronics can be finicky sometimes, but once they're properly fixed, they're solid. The peace of mind knowing the safety systems are all working correctly is fantastic. If you're taking your X3 in, just make sure they do a complete diagnostic scan afterward to ensure everything's communicating properly. From my experience, once it's fixed, it stays fixed. Let me know how it goes with your repair! Always happy to help a fellow BMW owner.

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to update you. Finally gathered the courage to take it in after our chat. Turns out my issue was similar but not identical, had a faulty connector in the rollover sensor system that was causing intermittent failures. The repair was cheaper than yours, came to about 750 €, which was a relief! The mechanic I found was really thorough, ran multiple tests, and explained everything clearly. Been driving for a few days now and no warning lights so far! The soft top is also working perfectly, they found and cleared some debris that was causing the closure problem. Really appreciate your advice about getting it checked right away. You were absolutely right about the peace of mind being worth it. The car feels much more reliable now. Thanks again for helping me make the decision to get it fixed!

Hey there! I actually dealt with a similar issue on my 2016 BMW X5 35i last year. The airbag warning light was quite concerning, and the diagnostic showed "Affected control unit defective" related to the rollover sensor. Got it checked at a garage, turned out the rollover sensor's wiring harness had some damage and was sending faulty signals to the control unit. The module had to be replaced along with some rewiring work. It was a serious safety concern that needed immediate attention since it affects the entire airbag system's functionality. The repair took about a day and a half. Would definitely recommend getting it checked ASAP, these sensors are crucial for safety systems. Make sure to get it done by someone who's familiar with BMW electronics, as it needs proper coding after replacement. Best of luck with the repair!
