BMW X3 Engine Stalling: Fuel Regulator Diagnosis Help

Hey car enthusiasts, having some serious concerns with my 2015 BMW X3 (gas engine, 100991 KM). The engine's acting up, rough idle, stalling, power loss, and the check engine light's on. Pretty sure it's the fuel pressure regulator, but got burned by a mechanic recently and don't want another costly mistake. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their X3? What was the actual problem and did you find a trustworthy mechanic to fix it? Any input would be really helpful. Thanks!

As a 2012 BMW X5 owner, I had nearly identical symptoms after changing my fuel filter. The error persisted and the engine would occasionally stall at idle. After scanning, it turned out the fuel pressure sensor wasn't properly connected during the filter replacement. The connector was damaged and needed replacement along with a new wiring harness section. The repair wasn't particularly serious, but leaving it unfixed could have damaged the fuel pump. My mechanic discovered the issue during diagnosis, the fuel rail pressure was inconsistent, causing the engine management system to get incorrect readings. Just make sure whoever checks it uses proper BMW diagnostic equipment. The generic scanners sometimes miss these specific fuel system errors on our cars.

Hey there, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful info since it sounds very similar to what I'm dealing with. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? I'm trying to get a better idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and whether this could be part of a bigger problem.

Hey, glad I could help! Just wanted to update you, took my X5 to the mechanic and they confirmed it was indeed the fuel pressure regulator that was acting up, just like I suspected. The total repair came to 45 € to clear the error code after they fixed the regulator. Not too bad, considering what some BMW repairs can cost! Since getting it sorted, my car's been running like a dream, no more stalling, rough idling, or any of those annoying issues. The engine's smooth as butter now, and I haven't had a single problem pop up since. Really night and day difference! Just make sure you get it checked out soon, leaving these fuel system issues can lead to bigger headaches down the road. Trust me, once you get it fixed, you'll notice the difference right away. My X5's performance is back to normal, and honestly, I wish I'd done it sooner. Let me know how it goes with yours!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! Just wanted to update you too, I finally got my X3 checked out by a certified mechanic who came highly recommended. Turned out you were spot on with the fuel pressure regulator suggestion. Had it fixed last week and wow, what a difference! The funny part is, when I got there, the mechanic immediately recognized the symptoms. He showed me the old regulator, and it was pretty worn out. The whole thing cost me a bit more than yours, around double, but honestly, worth every penny. The car runs fantastic now, like it's got a new lease on life. Best part? I've found a trustworthy mechanic who didn't try to upsell me on unnecessary repairs. He just fixed what needed fixing and sent me on my way. Really appreciate your advice, it helped me avoid what could've been a much more expensive repair if left unchecked. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction!
