Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to know I'm not alone with this convertible top drama. Great that you got it sorted out. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, curious if you've had any other issues pop up with the top mechanism since getting it fixed? Thanks! Alex

Good to hear from you again! Just wanted to let you know that since my last message, I took my Z4 to the mechanic and got everything sorted out. The problem was exactly what we suspected, a defective convertible top hall sensor. The fix was actually simpler than expected, just needed to repair a faulty cable connection. Only cost me 95€, which was a relief as I was worried it might be something more serious! And to answer your question, nope, haven't had a single issue with the top since getting it fixed. It's working perfectly smooth now, no more of that annoying flashing red light or the stop-and-go drama. The repair has held up great for the past several months. Honestly, it was worth every penny just for the peace of mind. You know how nerve-wracking it can be when you're not sure if the top's going to work properly or not! Let me know how it goes with yours!

Thanks a lot for all the info! Really glad I reached out. I actually took your advice and got my car checked out yesterday. You wouldn't believe it, turned out to be almost the exact same issue as yours! The mechanic found a loose connection and a worn-out sensor. The repair took about four hours and cost a bit more than yours, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The top's working perfectly now, no more strange noises or that annoying red light. Such a relief to have it fixed before summer! Really appreciate you sharing your experience. It helped me feel more confident about getting it repaired instead of putting it off. And you're right, the peace of mind is priceless. No more worrying about getting caught in bad weather with a stuck roof! Thanks again for all your help!

I had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW Z4 last year. The convertible top would act up just like yours, getting stuck mid-operation and showing that annoying flashing red light. Turned out to be a faulty connection in the wiring harness near the rear hatch, plus a worn-out hall sensor in one of the motors. It wasn't a catastrophic problem, but it needed proper attention. The mechanic had to partially disassemble the top mechanism to access the wiring. The hall sensor was replaced, and they had to repair some corroded wiring connections. The whole repair took about a day. Based on my experience, I'd recommend having it checked soon before it gets worse. These issues typically don't fix themselves, and you don't want the top getting stuck when you least expect it.
