BMW X4 A/C Compressor Dies, Owner Seeks Repair Help
Summary of the thread
The owner of a 2023 BMW X4 experienced a complete failure of the A/C system, which initially showed signs of reduced cooling. An error code indicated an issue with the A/C compressor. A similar case was shared where the compressor clutch failure led to electrical issues, requiring replacement of both the clutch and compressor. The suggested solution involved replacing the compressor and clutch assembly and recharging the system, which resolved the problem and restored the A/C to optimal performance.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's super helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Would you mind telling me how much the whole repair set you back? Also curious if you've had any other A/C related problems pop up since getting it fixed?

Hey again! Happy to give you an update. After taking it to the mechanic, the A/C compressor shutdown problem was completely resolved. The undervoltage issue was indeed the culprit, just like I suspected. Total bill came to 240 € which honestly wasn't as bad as I initially feared when I first had it fixed. And to answer your question, nope, absolutely zero A/C problems since then! The system's been running like a charm for months now. The cooling is actually better than it was before the problems started. Sometimes these electrical gremlins can be scary, but once properly diagnosed and fixed, they usually stay fixed. My 2020 X3 has been performing perfectly in every way since that repair. If you're experiencing similar symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later. The peace of mind is worth it, and you'll avoid any potential damage to other components.

Really appreciate all the detailed info! Finally got my X4 fixed last week. You were spot on about the compressor issue. The mechanic I found actually specializes in BMWs and knew exactly what to look for. Took them about 6 hours to complete the work, which included replacing the compressor and clutch assembly, plus a system recharge. Bill came to around 280 €, which was pretty reasonable considering the work done. The A/C is now blowing ice cold air, even better than when the car was new! Mechanic said these issues are pretty common in our models, so I'm glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with your experience. Really helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence in getting it sorted. Now I can finally enjoy driving without melting in this heat!

Hey! I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW X3 last summer. The symptoms were identical, A/C gradually lost cooling power before completely failing. Scan showed undervoltage at the compressor. Took it to the dealership where they found the compressor clutch had failed, causing the electrical issues. The compressor itself was also damaged because it had been running irregularly. Had to get both the clutch and compressor replaced since they're integrated on these models. They also recharged the system with fresh refrigerant. It was definitely a serious repair, not something you want to leave unaddressed as it can affect other electrical components. The whole job took about a day and a half. It's been working perfectly since then with no issues. Hope this helps guide you in the right direction. These compressor problems aren't uncommon in this series, but getting it fixed properly is crucial.
