Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it, or have you noticed any other quirks?

Hey again! Glad I could help! Yes, everything has been working perfectly since I got it fixed. The faulty door contact signal is completely gone now, no more unusual warnings or locking issues. Such a relief! The total repair cost was 95 € for fixing the cable/plug connection. Much cheaper than I initially feared, to be honest! The mechanic said it was a fairly common issue with these models, and once they know what they're looking for, it's a straightforward fix. Haven't noticed any other quirks since the repair. The auto-lock works like a charm now, and all the door sensors are functioning exactly as they should. It's been about a month and a half since the fix, and I haven't had a single warning light or door-related issue. One thing I learned from this, sometimes what seems like a major electrical problem can turn out to be something as simple as a worn connection. Definitely worth getting it checked out by someone who knows these BMWs well. Let me know how yours turns out!

Thanks a ton for all the details! Just wanted to update you, I took your advice and got it checked out. What a relief, it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared! Had a totally different experience with this new mechanic. Really knew their stuff about BMWs. Turned out my issue was also the wiring, but in my case, it was just a loose connection they needed to reseat. Even better, only cost me 75 € for the diagnostic and fix! Took them about an hour to sort it out, and they even showed me exactly what was wrong. Everything's working perfectly now, no more unusual warnings or locking issues. Such a huge difference from my last mechanic who wanted to replace the entire door module! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me avoid potentially spending way more than necessary. Definitely keeping this mechanic for future repairs! Thanks again for the help!

The problem still persists...Unfortunately, no solution...I think it needs to be reprogrammed!!!!!

Before considering reprogramming, try checking the fuse related to the door locking system. A blown fuse can sometimes cause similar issues. If the fuse is intact, it might be worth inspecting the wiring connections again for any loose or damaged wires. If these checks don't resolve the issue, reprogramming might be necessary. Keep me updated on your progress, and feel free to ask if you have any further questions!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2017 BMW X3 last month. The symptoms were exactly like yours, unusual door warnings, inconsistent locking, and the auto-lock feature stopped working completely. Took it to the garage and turned out it was indeed the door contact sensor, but the main problem was actually the wiring harness in the driver's door. The cables had worn out from constant opening/closing, causing intermittent connection issues. The mechanic found several frayed wires near the door hinge area. Not a serious mechanical issue, but definitely needed proper fixing to prevent potential security problems. They had to replace the wiring harness and recalibrate the door control module. The door sensor itself was actually fine. Quick tip, before taking it in, try disconnecting your battery for about 10 minutes. Sometimes these symptoms are just the system being glitchy and need a reset. If that doesn't help, it's likely a hardware issue like mine was. Hope this helps!
