BMW X4 Lost Power: Throttle Issues and Limp Mode Help?

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X4 has 32875 KM and just had its latest service two months ago. I'm getting only the check engine light, no other warnings. That's really interesting about the accelerator pedal module, I wouldn't have thought to check that. Did you have any warning signs before it completely went into limp mode? I'm worried about the repair costs, but it's good to know it might not be as expensive as I feared if it's the same issue. I'll definitely get it checked out asap rather than risk any further damage.

Hey again! Thanks for sharing those details about your X4. You know, thinking back to my X3's situation, I actually did notice some subtle signs before it went full limp mode. For about a week or so, I felt some slight hesitation when accelerating, especially from a stop. At first, I just brushed it off thinking it was maybe bad fuel or something. The mileage on your X4 is pretty similar to what mine had when the issue popped up, I was at around 35000 KM. And yeah, just like you, I had only the check engine light on. The funny thing is, I had also just had my service done a few months before this happened. About the costs, I got lucky with my repair bill because my mechanic had dealt with this issue before and knew exactly what to look for. But even if it turns out to be something different, these newer BMWs are pretty good at self-diagnosis through their computer systems, so troubleshooting shouldn't take too long. One thing I learned from my experience, if you're noticing any kind of weird behavior with the accelerator response, even if it's subtle, it's definitely worth getting checked out. Better to catch these things early than end up stranded somewhere, which almost happened to me! Let me know what your mechanic finds, I'm curious to see if it's the same issue I had with my X3.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! It's super helpful to hear about your X3's experience, those early warning signs you mentioned about hesitation during acceleration... now that you say it, I did notice something similar last week but didn't think much of it. Really kicking myself for not paying attention to that earlier! My mechanic actually had a cancellation and can see me tomorrow morning, which is a huge relief. I feel much better going in armed with this knowledge about the accelerator pedal module possibility. The fact that our mileage and symptoms are so similar definitely makes me think this could be the same issue. And honestly, I'm actually feeling a bit more optimistic about the whole situation now, especially knowing that the repair might not break the bank if it's what we suspect. I'll definitely update this thread once I get the diagnosis. It's been really helpful having someone who's been through almost the exact same thing. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience in such detail!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW X3 last summer. I've got some experience working on cars, but nothing too advanced. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. When my car started acting up, I also thought it was the throttle valve, but it turned out to be a faulty accelerator pedal module. The electronics inside were defective, causing those exact issues, poor response, limp mode, and unstable idle. Took it to my trusted workshop, and after diagnostics, they confirmed the pedal module was the culprit. The repair cost me about 265 Euro, including parts and labor. Since then, zero issues. What's your X4's mileage? And have you noticed any other warning lights besides the check engine? This info would help me share more relevant details from my experience. Quick tip: Don't delay getting it checked, driving in limp mode isn't great for the car long-term.
