BMW X4 Misfiring Symptoms: Owners Share Solutions

Hey everyone! I'm having trouble with my 2021 BMW X4 (164k km) and need some advice before heading back to a mechanic. The engine's been acting up, stuttering during acceleration, sluggish throttle response, and now the check engine light is on. Previous mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm pretty sure it's misfiring but want to hear from others who've dealt with similar issues. Any recommendations on what to check or experiences with getting this fixed? Really want to avoid another disappointing repair job. Thanks in advance for any help!

Summary of the thread

The conversation centers around a 2021 BMW X4 experiencing misfiring symptoms, including stuttering during acceleration, sluggish throttle response, and an illuminated check engine light. These issues are suspected to be caused by faulty fuel injectors, as similar symptoms were resolved in another BMW by replacing damaged injectors. The suggested solution is to have the injectors checked and replaced if necessary, as driving with faulty injectors can lead to further engine damage. The outcome of addressing the injector issue is a significant improvement in vehicle performance, eliminating the misfiring symptoms.

Let me share my experience since I had similar symptoms with my 2018 BMW X3 last year. Faced the exact same issues, stuttering, poor acceleration, and CEL. Turned out to be a faulty fuel injector. These symptoms usually point to injection problems, and in my case, one of the injectors was clogged and not spraying fuel properly. The repair involved replacing two injectors that were damaged beyond cleaning. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention since bad injectors can cause further engine damage if left unfixed. The whole job took about a day at the shop. Given your symptoms and mileage, I'd strongly suspect injectors. Make sure they check all injectors, not just the obviously failing ones. The diagnostic computer should point to specific cylinders that are misfiring. Better get it checked soon, driving with faulty injectors isn't worth the risk of bigger engine problems down the road.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! This really helps because I'm dealing with the exact same symptoms right now. I've been worried it might be the injectors too. Would you mind letting me know roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, curious if you've had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? My mechanic quoted me a pretty high price and I'm trying to figure out if it's reasonable.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up on your questions about the repair costs. I had it fixed right after seeing your first post and I'm really glad I did. The total bill came to 515 € for replacing the faulty injector, and honestly, it was worth every penny. Since getting it sorted, the car's running like a dream, no more misfires or any of those annoying stuttering issues I mentioned before. Trust me, I know it sounds like a chunk of change, but considering how smooth my X3 is running now, I'd say your mechanic's quote isn't out of line. These BMW injectors aren't cheap parts, plus there's quite a bit of labor involved in doing it right. The best part? Haven't had a single problem since the repair. The engine's back to its old self, strong, smooth acceleration, no check engine light, nothing. Just wanted to let you know since you're dealing with similar symptoms. If your quote is around the same range as what I paid, I'd say go for it. Way better than risking more expensive engine problems later on. Feel free to ask if you need any other details about the repair!

Thanks for the update! You know what, I actually just got back from the mechanic yesterday. After hearing about your experience, I went ahead and got it checked out. Turns out you were spot on, it was definitely the injectors. Had to get two replaced, which set me back about 900€, a bit more than yours since they had to replace multiple ones. But honestly, what a difference! The car feels completely different now, no more stuttering, and the acceleration is super smooth again. The check engine light's gone too. My mechanic actually found some minor wiring issues while they were in there, so they fixed those up as well. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it sorted. The drive home from the shop was like having a new car again. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the decision to get it fixed right away instead of putting it off. Money well spent in my opinion!
