BMW X5 Bluetooth Call Issues, Can't Hear Voice During Calls

Thanks for the detailed response! Mine's at 94887 KM and had its last service about 2 months ago. Before the phone system died, I noticed the audio would sometimes cut out during calls, but I ignored it thinking it was just bad reception. The fault code I'm getting is "CC-ID 352" on the display. It's frustrating because everything else in the car works perfectly fine, just the hands-free calling that's acting up. Really hoping it's just the microphone and not the entire control module, as that sounds pretty expensive! Did you notice any audio issues before your system completely failed?

Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about your X5. Yeah, that's exactly how mine started too, intermittent audio cutting out during calls. When I think back, I probably should've had it checked right away, but like you, I blamed it on poor reception. The fault code you're getting (CC-ID 352) is different from what I had though, which makes me think you might be dealing with something less severe than my control module issue. Actually, now that I'm looking at your symptoms more closely and comparing them to what I experienced, you might be in luck. My X3 had complete system failure, radio, navigation, everything went crazy. Since yours is just the phone function, I'm starting to think my first diagnosis might've been off the mark. The microphone replacement does sound more likely in your case. Have you tried checking if the mic itself is loose? In my previous issues (before the big control module failure), I had some success with simply checking the connections behind the overhead console where the mic sits. Sometimes they just work themselves loose over time. Let me know if you want me to explain more about accessing that area, it's fairly straightforward if you want to check it yourself before spending money at the workshop.

Thanks so much for sharing those insights! I just checked the overhead console like you suggested, and you might be onto something, there's definitely some play in that area when I press it. I'm feeling a bit more optimistic now that it might just be a connection issue rather than the whole control module. I think I'll try to find some DIY videos about accessing the mic connections first before taking it to the shop. Even if I end up needing professional help, at least I'll know what I'm dealing with. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain your experience and the suggestion about checking the overhead console. Would it be okay if I message you again if I run into any issues while trying to check the connections? You seem to really know your BMWs! Thanks again for the help, it's great to get advice from someone who's dealt with similar issues rather than just heading straight to the workshop.

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs, I drive a 2006 BMW X3 and previously owned a 7 Series. I actually faced a similar infotainment issue last year, my whole system went crazy, including the phone functionality. After taking it to my trusted workshop, they diagnosed a faulty control module. The entire repair, including parts and labor, set me back about 815 Euro, but it fixed all the connection problems. Since you're dealing with an X5 from 2004, could you share if there were any warning signs before the system failed? Also, what's the exact fault code you're seeing? This would help me tell if you're dealing with the same issue I had. Just so you know, these problems are pretty common in BMWs of that generation, but they're usually fixable. Let me know those details, and I might be able to help you further!
