Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! I had almost the exact same problem with my X5. The cam sensors definitely seem to be a common issue with these models. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just want to know what I might be in for with my repair.

Hey again! Great news, I can actually help put your mind at ease! After taking my X3 to the mechanic, it turned out the System Readiness Check issue was much simpler than expected. They ran a complete OBD2 diagnostic scan and managed to clear the error codes without needing any parts replacement. The best part? It didn't cost me anything! Since the fix, my car's been running perfectly smooth, no more error messages in the display and the check engine light hasn't come back on. Looking back, I probably worried more than I needed to about those cam sensors. Sometimes these BMWs just need a proper diagnostic reset to get back to normal. Honestly, it's such a relief when these things turn out to be simple fixes. If you're still having issues with your X5, I'd definitely recommend getting it scanned. It might save you from unnecessary repairs like I initially thought I needed. Has your mechanic done a full diagnostic scan yet?

Thanks so much for the follow-up! Well, I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and I wish I had such a simple fix! Turned out my situation was a bit more complicated. Had to shell out quite a bit for new sensors and some electrical work. The mechanic I found was really thorough though, way better than my last one. Explained everything clearly and showed me the faulty parts. Car's running great now, but these BMW repairs can really hit the wallet hard! Still, better to fix it properly than risk bigger problems down the road. At least now I know what to watch out for in the future. Thanks again for all your help and advice, really helped me feel more confident about getting it checked out despite my previous bad experience. Just glad to have my car back in working order. Think I'll start saving up for future repairs though, these luxury cars sure know how to keep us on our toes!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2003 BMW X3 3.0i last month. The error messages in the display turned out to be related to faulty cam position sensors. The OBD2 scan showed multiple stored codes pointing to engine timing issues. Initially thought it was something minor, but the diagnosis revealed both sensors needed replacement. The engine would occasionally run rough and the check engine light kept coming on intermittently. It was actually quite serious as bad sensors can cause engine damage if left unchecked. My suggestion would be to get it checked by a BMW specialist rather than a general mechanic. In my case, they also found the wiring harness connecting to the sensors was slightly corroded, which needed attention. The repair wasn't overly complex, but it needed proper diagnostic equipment and genuine parts to fix it right. From what you're describing, your symptoms sound very similar to what I experienced. Best of luck with the repair.
