BMW X5 TPMS Headache, Warning Light Won't Go Away

Hi! I'm having trouble with my 2022 BMW X5 (gas engine). The tire pressure warning light is on, there's an error message in the instrument cluster, and the car stored some fault codes. I suspect it's a faulty tire pressure sensor, but I'd like to hear from others who dealt with similar issues. What was the actual problem in your case and how did your mechanic fix it? Any insight would be appreciated.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW X3 (also gas). I have some experience working on cars, but sensors are not my forte. Last summer, my tire pressure warning light came on out of nowhere, and I got those annoying error messages too. Took it to my regular workshop, and turns out the TPMS sensor battery was completely dead in one wheel. The mechanic replaced the sensor battery, and it cost me around 280 Euro. Pretty straightforward fix, actually. The whole thing took about an hour. Just curious, have you checked if this happens with a specific tire or if it's showing errors for all of them? Also, what exact error message are you getting? This might help pinpoint if you're dealing with the same issue I had. Let me know these details, and I might be able to share more specific info from my experience with the X3.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I actually went through something similar with my X5 recently (142205 KM on the clock). Had my car serviced last month, but this issue popped up just after. Initially thought I just needed air, but even after filling all tires to the recommended pressure, that warning light kept staring at me. My error message shows "Tire pressure monitor malfunction." Really hope it's just a sensor battery like in your case. The warning seems to be linked to the right rear tire specifically. Did your X3 also point to a specific tire when you had this problem? Just trying to figure out if I should prepare for a simple sensor replacement or if there might be something else going on.

Hey again! Yeah, my X3 (now at 128000 KM) did exactly the same thing, pointed straight to one specific tire, just like yours. In my case, it was the left front that was causing all the drama. That "Tire pressure monitor malfunction" message is exactly what I was seeing too. Such a pain, right? After my sensor fix, I actually had it happen again about six months ago, but this time it was the right rear (just like yours!). Same story, dead sensor battery. Must be a common weak spot on these BMWs. Second time around I knew exactly what to expect, and yep, another sensor replacement did the trick. Quick tip from my experience, when they replace the sensor, make sure they check the others too. My mechanic told me these sensors typically last about 5-7 years, so if one's going, the others might not be far behind. Saved me some headache later on. Since your symptoms are identical to what I went through twice now, I'd bet good money it's just another sensor battery calling it quits. Frustrating, but at least it's a pretty straightforward fix. Let me know how it turns out!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! That's super helpful to know you had the exact same issue, and even in the same spot as mine. You've actually made me feel a lot better about this, I was worried it might be something more serious with the TPMS system itself. Really appreciate that tip about checking the other sensors too. My car's coming up on 3 years old now, so maybe it'd be smart to have them look at all of them while they're at it. Rather deal with everything at once than have to keep going back. I'll schedule an appointment with my mechanic this week and have them check it out. Will definitely make sure they look at all the sensors like you suggested. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it's been super helpful knowing what to expect!
