BMW X6 Height Control Issues, Need Suspension Help!

Hi all, having trouble with my 2013 BMW X6. The warning light in the dash is on, headlights are misaligned, and the car's front-to-rear height is uneven. Also getting error codes. I suspect it's related to the height control system. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? What was the fix at your workshop? Any input on repair costs would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I have some experience working on BMWs. Had a similar issue with my 2011 BMW X5 last year (previously owned an X3 too). I totally get your frustration with those height control problems. Mine showed pretty much the same symptoms, warning light, misaligned headlights, and that annoying uneven stance. Turned out the control rod sensor was faulty. Got it fixed at my regular workshop for about 110 Euro, the part replacement and labor included. But before jumping to conclusions, would you mind sharing: Are you getting any specific error codes? Does the height vary when the engine is running vs when it's off? Have you noticed any unusual noises from the suspension? These details would help me confirm if it's the same issue I dealt with. Let me know!

Thanks for chiming in! I've got 33519 KM on the clock since my last service, and I'm getting error code 5A39-01. The height definitely changes between engine on/off states, it's higher when running. Haven't noticed any weird suspension sounds though. Really appreciate the heads up about the control rod sensor. I'll mention this to my mechanic during the check-up. Did your fix last long-term, or did you have to deal with any related issues afterward?

Hey again! Thanks for those details, it's really helpful to know the exact error code and symptoms. You know what? Your situation sounds exactly like what I dealt with on my X5. With that error code and the height difference between on/off states, I'm even more convinced it's the same control rod sensor issue I had. When I got mine fixed last year, the mechanic actually showed me the worn-out sensor, it was pretty obvious once they pulled it out. And to answer your question about long-term reliability, I'm happy to report that the fix has held up perfectly since then. Been about 15000 KM since the repair, and I haven't had a single height control issue. The headlights stay properly aligned, and the suspension height remains consistent. Quick tip though, when they replace the sensor, make sure they check the connecting wires too. In my case, they found some slight corrosion on the connectors and cleaned those up while they were at it. Probably helped prevent any future problems. The 110 Euro I spent was totally worth it for the peace of mind. Let me know how your repair goes, I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue!

Thank you so much for all this detailed information! I'm relieved to hear your fix has been reliable over 15000 KM, that's really reassuring. I've already called my mechanic and booked the car in for next week. Mentioned the control rod sensor and the possibility of corroded connectors, and he agreed these symptoms fit the pattern. He actually quoted me around 120 Euro, which sounds about right based on your experience. It's been super helpful having someone who's dealt with the same issue! I was worried it might be something more serious with the entire suspension system, which would've been way more expensive. I'll definitely get them to check those connecting wires too, good catch on that tip. Will update you once it's fixed, but feeling much more confident about the whole situation now. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!
