BMW X6 Massage Seat Malfunction, Fix and Shop Guide

Hey all! Having trouble with my 2020 BMW X6 (45k km, gas engine). The massage function in my seat is acting weird, can't turn it on or off properly, and there's some error code showing up. Has anyone dealt with a faulty massage seat switch before? Not too keen on going back to my regular mechanic after a recent bad experience, so I'm looking for advice on what to expect for repairs and maybe recommendations for trustworthy mechanics who know their way around BMW electronics. Thanks in advance for any help!

I had a similar issue with my 2017 BMW X4 last month. The massage function was acting up, and it turned out to be a faulty connection in the seat wiring harness. Had to take it to the shop, where they diagnosed a loose connector that was causing intermittent function and error codes. The fix required partial removal of the seat upholstery to access the wiring. It was more complex than I initially thought because they had to recalibrate the seat control module after reconnecting everything. Not a super serious issue, but definitely needed a professional with the right diagnostic equipment. Most BMW comfort functions are interconnected through the car's electronics, so it's worth finding someone who specializes in BMW electrical systems. The massage function might seem minor, but it's tied into the whole seat control system. Based on my experience, I'd say look for a shop that specifically works with BMW electronics rather than a general mechanic. The repair itself took about half a day to complete.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the wiring harness, sounds exactly like what I might be dealing with. Would you mind sharing what the repair cost you? And just curious, have you had any other issues pop up with the seat since getting it fixed? Always good to know what to expect with these things, especially with BMW electronics being so interconnected.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up, since taking it to the mechanic I mentioned, the massage seat switch has been working perfectly. The repair cost me 95 €, they found it was just a faulty cable connection that needed fixing. Pretty straightforward in the end, though I was worried it might be something more serious! Haven't had a single problem with the seat since then, everything's working smoothly. The massage function kicks in exactly when it should, and no more error codes popping up on the display. I'd say I got lucky with a relatively simple fix, considering how complex BMW's electronic systems can be. The repair shop did a great job diagnosing it quickly. They knew exactly what they were looking at, which really confirmed for me that going to BMW specialists was the right call. If you're still looking for a fix, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later, these things can sometimes get worse if left too long.

Thanks for the update! I actually just got mine fixed last week. You were spot on about it being electrical, turned out my issue was pretty similar. Found a specialized shop and they sorted it right away. Cost me a bit more though, around 150€, since they had to replace a small control module along with fixing the wiring. Funny enough, while I was there, they showed me exactly what was causing the problem. Much better experience than my last mechanic, these guys really knew their stuff about BMW systems. The seat's working perfectly now, massage function and all. Really glad I asked here first, saved me from going to another general mechanic who might've just made things worse. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with this!
