BMW X6 Power Loss and Jerking, Need Diagnosis Help

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X6 is completely stock with no modifications, currently at 12585 KM since I'm the first owner. I just had it serviced last month and everything was fine until now. The main fault code I'm getting is P0300 (unusual/multiple cylinder misfire detected). Really hoping it's not something major since these engines can be quite expensive to repair. The jerking seems worse when accelerating from a stop. I'll probably take it to the dealership this week, but wanted to check if anyone here had dealt with something similar first.

Hey again! Thanks for providing those details about your X6. Since you mentioned the P0300 code and the symptoms, I can tell you this is quite different from what I experienced with my chip tuning issue. In my experience working with BMWs, a P0300 code usually points to either ignition system problems or fuel delivery issues. Given that your car is completely stock and recently serviced, I'd suspect either failing spark plugs, ignition coils, or possibly a fuel injector issue. You know what's interesting? After I got my X5 sorted with the chip issue, I actually had a similar misfire code pop up about six months later. Turned out to be two bad ignition coils. The fix was pretty straightforward, replaced all the coils and spark plugs as a preventive measure. Cost me around 400 Euro but solved the problem completely. The jerking during acceleration you're describing is classic misfire behavior. Since your car has relatively low mileage, I'd bet on the ignition coils being the culprit. These parts can fail prematurely sometimes, even on well-maintained vehicles. Definitely get it checked at the dealership since you're the first owner. Just make sure they do a thorough diagnosis before replacing parts. Keep us posted on what they find!

Really appreciate your detailed response and sharing both your experiences! That's actually quite reassuring to hear about the ignition coils, sounds much less scary than what I was imagining. You're right, the symptoms do match up perfectly with what you described. I've just booked an appointment with the dealership for tomorrow morning. I'll make sure to mention the ignition coils and spark plugs to them, though I'm sure they'll check those first given the fault code. It's good to know what I might be looking at cost-wise too, 400 Euro for all coils and plugs doesn't sound too terrible considering what some BMW repairs can cost! Thanks again for taking the time to help out. I'll definitely update the thread once I get the diagnosis and repair done. Really helpful to have knowledgeable people like you in the community who can share their experiences!

Hey there! I had a pretty similar issue with my 2012 BMW X5 last year (I'd say I have some experience working on cars). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I went through, jerking and power loss. Turned out the problem was caused by a third-party tuning chip that was installed poorly. My trusted mechanic found that it was messing with the engine management system. Had to shell out 180 Euro to get it fixed properly, they removed the aftermarket chip and reset the ECU to factory settings. My X5 has been running smoothly ever since. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you tell me if you've had any recent modifications done to your X6? Also, what are the exact fault codes you're getting? This would help determine if we're dealing with the same issue. BTW, if you're considering chip tuning in the future, I'd strongly recommend sticking with certified BMW specialists. Hard lesson learned!
