BMW X6: Multiple System Failures & Dead Controls Mystery

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X6 is at 127396 KM and just had its service last month. I've noticed these warnings mostly pop up after I've been driving for about 15-20 minutes, and they seem to come on all at once. It's definitely not temperature-related as it happens regardless of whether the engine is cold or warm. I actually tried cleaning the battery terminals too, but no luck with that. Good to know about the steering wheel module wiring, that does sound similar to what I'm experiencing. Did your workshop mention how they tracked down that specific issue? I'm hoping it's something similarly straightforward and not too expensive to fix.

Hey again! Yeah, seeing your description of when the warnings appear, it's sounding even more similar to what I dealt with on my X5. My workshop used diagnostic equipment to trace the electrical signals, and they found intermittent connection issues that were getting worse as the car warmed up, just like what you're describing. When they dug deeper into my steering wheel module, they actually found that heat expansion was making the connection worse over those first 15-20 minutes of driving. That's why the warnings would suddenly all pop up together. Remember when I mentioned the corroded connector? The heat was making it expand just enough to break the connection. With your mileage being pretty close to what mine was when this happened (I was at about 125000 KM), I'd bet money you're dealing with the same thing. The steering wheel module is kind of like the hub for a lot of these systems, so when it acts up, it triggers all those warnings at once. I'd definitely recommend having them check that first before looking at more expensive possibilities. My mechanic said these modules are actually pretty common failure points on our BMWs. Since you just had service done, maybe ask if they noticed anything unusual with the electrical systems during the checkup?

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! You've honestly made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I was worried it might be something major, but hearing that you had almost the exact same problem and got it fixed relatively cheaply is really reassuring. I just called my service center and mentioned the steering wheel module issue you described. They said it makes perfect sense given the symptoms, especially the timing of when the warnings appear. Got an appointment for tomorrow morning, and they'll specifically check the wiring connections and module first. The funny thing is, I was just about to cancel my weekend plans thinking this was going to be some massive repair job. Now I'm pretty confident it'll be sorted quickly. I'll definitely update you once they've checked it out. Thanks again for walking me through your experience, it's been super helpful!

Hi! I have some experience working on cars and had a very similar issue with my 2018 BMW X5 last year. Those warning lights can be super frustrating! In my case, it turned out to be a faulty wiring connection in the steering wheel module. My local workshop diagnosed it and found that one of the cable connectors was loose and slightly corroded. They had to replace the connector and clean up the connection points. The whole thing cost me around 95 Euro, and it fixed all those warning lights and restored functionality to the steering controls. What's your vehicle's mileage? Also, have you noticed any patterns when these warnings appear, like during cold starts or when turning? This might help narrow down if you're dealing with the same issue I had with my X5. Before taking it to the shop, I actually tried cleaning the battery terminals since electrical issues can sometimes stem from there, but that didn't help. Better have a pro look at it since it involves multiple systems.
