BMW X7 Injector Problems: Stalling and High Fuel Usage

Hey everyone! My 2023 BMW X7 has been acting up lately. Having issues with starting, excessive fuel usage, and noticeable power loss. Engine's running rough at idle and sometimes stalls. Failed emissions too. I suspect faulty injectors might be the culprit. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their X7? Interested in hearing about your repair experiences and workshop solutions. Thanks in advance

Hey there! I had similar issues with my 2021 BMW X5 last winter. I have some experience working on cars but nothing too advanced. I noticed the same symptoms, rough idle, high fuel consumption, and starting problems. Took it to my trusted workshop and they diagnosed dirty fuel injectors. The cleaning and servicing of the injectors cost me around 515 Euro, but it fixed all the issues completely. My mechanic mentioned this is somewhat common in BMW models, including the X3 I had before. Before I share more specific details about the repair process, could you tell me your engine variant and current mileage? This would help me give you more relevant info since different engines might need slightly different approaches. Quick tip: While waiting for the repair, try using high-quality fuel from reputable stations, it helped reduce my symptoms temporarily.

Hey, thanks for the detailed response! My X7 is at 20718 KM and had its latest service just 3 months ago. The fuel injector cleaning solution sounds promising, really hoping it won't be anything more serious. It's reassuring to hear you had similar symptoms that were resolved. I've been sticking to premium fuel since the issues started, but haven't noticed much improvement. Did you experience any warning lights on your dashboard before getting it fixed?

Hey again! Yes, actually I did get warning lights, the check engine light came on intermittently at first, and then stayed on permanently just before I took it to the shop. In my X5's case, apart from the injector cleaning, they also had to replace one injector that was beyond repair. Since your mileage is relatively low at 20K, I'm a bit surprised you're having these issues. Mine started around 45K. But then again, the symptoms are exactly what I experienced. One thing I forgot to mention in my previous reply, before getting it fixed, I noticed a slight hesitation during acceleration, especially between 2000-3000 RPM. Did you notice anything similar? My mechanic also mentioned that even with low mileage, fuel quality and driving patterns can affect injector performance. Short trips where the engine doesn't reach full operating temperature can sometimes lead to carbon buildup. That was probably my issue since I was doing lots of short drives back then. Keep us posted on what you find out. The good news is that if it's just injector cleaning like in my case, it's a pretty straightforward fix and makes a world of difference in performance.

Thanks everyone for the helpful insights! Just got back from the workshop and wanted to share an update. You were right, it was indeed the fuel injectors causing all the trouble. They found two of them were partially clogged, and yes, I had that exact same hesitation during acceleration you mentioned. The mechanic did a thorough cleaning of all injectors and replaced one that was damaged. The total cost came to about 650 Euro, which stings a bit but totally worth it. The difference in how the car runs now is like night and day. No more rough idle, starting issues are gone, and fuel consumption is back to normal. They also mentioned I should do longer drives occasionally to prevent carbon buildup, just like you suggested. Really appreciate all the advice, especially about the warning lights and acceleration issues, helped me explain the symptoms better to the mechanic. Learned my lesson about fuel quality and driving patterns too. Thanks again for helping me sort this out!
