BMW XM Performance Issues, Rich Fuel Mix Suspected

Hi everyone! My 2022 BMW XM (15,660 km) is giving me headaches. The engine feels sluggish, jerks during acceleration, and burns way more fuel than usual. Check engine light is on too. I suspect it's running too rich, but after a bad experience with my previous mechanic, I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their BMW? What was the actual problem and where did you get it fixed? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had pretty much the same issues with my 2019 BMW X6 last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, poor acceleration, jerking, and terrible fuel economy. After diagnosis at the dealership, it turned out to be a faulty fuel injector. Two of the injectors weren't spraying fuel properly, causing uneven combustion. It was actually a serious issue that needed immediate attention because it can damage other engine components if left unfixed. In my case, they had to replace both defective injectors and clean the fuel system. The car runs perfectly now, smooth acceleration, normal fuel consumption, and no more check engine light. Given that your XM is still quite new, I'd strongly suggest taking it to an official BMW dealer. They'll have the right diagnostic tools and genuine parts for these newer models. Better safe than sorry with these high-performance engines. Best of luck!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the injectors, sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks? Cheers!

Hey again! Glad I could help! Yeah, just checked my records, the total repair came to 515 € for fixing the faulty injector. Pretty penny, but totally worth it considering how much better the car runs now. And you'll be pleased to know it's been running like a dream since the fix! The engine's back to its old self, no more rich fuel mixture issues. Fuel economy is spot on again, and that annoying jerking during acceleration is completely gone. Haven't had a single problem since the repair, which was about eight months ago now. Must say, it's such a relief not having to worry about damaging other engine parts anymore. I know these repairs aren't cheap, but trust me, it's better to get it sorted sooner rather than later. The peace of mind is worth every cent. Let me know how you get on with yours, hoping it's the same straightforward fix! Take care!

Thanks so much for all the info! Just wanted to update you, I bit the bullet and took it to a BMW dealer yesterday. Turns out you were spot on! They found two faulty injectors, just like in your case. The bill came to about 550 €, a bit more than yours but not too bad considering. The best part? Just picked up the car this afternoon and what a difference! The engine's running super smooth now, no more jerking, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. Honestly feels like driving a new car again. Really appreciate your advice about going to the dealer. They were actually pretty decent, explained everything clearly and got the job done within a day. Definitely learned my lesson about not waiting too long when these issues pop up. Thanks again for helping me sort this out! Cheers!
