BMW Z4 Fuel Injection Issues, Multiple Problems Reported

Hey everyone! Having issues with my 2022 BMW Z4. Engine's been acting up lately, jerking during drives, burning more fuel than usual, and losing power. It also stalls at idle and blows smoke when I accelerate. Pretty sure it's related to the injection system. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences, especially what the mechanics found and fixed. Trying to get a better handle on the problem before taking it to the shop. Thanks for any input!

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs since I own a 2020 BMW M4 (and previously had a 4 Series). I'd say I have some experience working with cars, enough to understand the basics but still rely on professionals for serious issues. Funny enough, I faced very similar symptoms last year. It turned out to be a loose connection in one of the fuel injector plugs. The workshop found that the wiring harness connector wasn't properly seated, causing intermittent connection issues. They had to replace the connector and secure the wiring properly. Cost me about 95 Euro, and the car's been running smoothly since then. Before going further, could you share: How many miles/kilometers are on your Z4? When did these symptoms first appear? Have you noticed any check engine lights? Does it happen more when the engine is cold or warm? This info would help narrow down if you're dealing with the same issue I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Z4's currently at 111,688 KM and had its last service about 2 months ago. The symptoms started showing up about a week ago, and yep, the check engine light came on yesterday. The jerking and power loss seem worse when the engine's cold, especially in the morning. Your injector plug issue sounds similar to what I'm experiencing. It's good to know it might not be something super expensive. Did you notice any specific sounds or smells before you got it fixed? I'm getting a slight burning smell sometimes, which has me a bit worried. Planning to take it to the shop this week, but wanted to get some insights from fellow BMW owners first.

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your Z4. That burning smell you mentioned definitely caught my attention because it's different from what I experienced with my M4. In my case, I didn't notice any particular smells, which makes me think your issue might be a bit more complex than just the loose injector plug I had. You know, with those symptoms happening when the engine's cold, plus that burning smell, it could be that you're dealing with multiple issues. When I had my injector problem, it was pretty consistent regardless of engine temperature. Given your mileage and the burning smell, I'd suggest getting it checked ASAP. While my fix was relatively simple and cheap, I don't want to give you false hope, your situation sounds like it might need a more thorough investigation. The good news is that catching these things early usually saves a lot of headaches (and money) down the line. Quick question, have you noticed if the smoke from your exhaust has any particular color? Mine was more like a light haze when I had the injector issue, but different colors can point to different problems. Just trying to help narrow it down based on what I learned from my experience.

Thanks for asking about the smoke color, it's actually a grayish-blue, especially noticeable during cold starts. That's really helpful to know that yours was different with the injector issue. You're right about getting it checked soon, I've already scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. I'm a bit nervous about the potential cost, but better safe than sorry, especially with that burning smell. What you said about multiple issues makes sense, especially since my symptoms seem more complex than what you experienced. It's interesting how these problems can present differently even in similar BMW models. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and ask these detailed questions, it's given me a much better idea of what to discuss with the mechanic. I'll make sure to update the thread once I find out what's actually causing all these issues. Might help someone else down the line who runs into similar problems with their BMW. Thanks again for all your input!
