Thanks. I haven't detected any apparent oil leaks, but I'll check the oil level more closely. Could you explain what 'related issues' you're referring to?

Sure. Other issues could be from the PCV valve itself causing excessive pressure and leaks. Considering your symptoms, and my experience, I'd suggest a visit to a workshop to have the crankcase ventilation system checked. It cost me around 360€ to get it fixed.

I had similar symptoms with my Boxer. The smoke, especially when accelerating, and the check engine light are telltale signs. Have you noticed any unusual oil consumption or leaks? The crankcase ventilation system is definitely a suspect, but it's worth checking for related issues.
