Boxer Overheating and Slow Warm Up

Alright, I'm tearing my hair out here. My 2002 Peugeot Boxer with a gasoline engine is acting up. The engine's overheating like crazy, and it takes ages to warm up in the first place. Mileage is at 266008 km. I'm suspecting the thermostat. Anyone else battled this?

Sounds familiar! Had a similar headache with my old Saab 9-3. Exact same symptoms: overheating and slow warm-up. In my case, it was a defective map thermostat, driving me nuts! Is your cooling fan running constantly, even when the engine's cold?

That Saab story gives me the shivers! So, just to be clear, you're saying a dodgy thermostat can cause both overheating AND slow warm-up? I always thought it was one or the other. And no, the fan isn't running constantly, thankfully.

Yep, a malfunctioning thermostat can definitely cause both. It's like a stuck valve, messing with the whole cooling system. If it's stuck closed, the engine overheats; if it's stuck open, it takes forever to warm up. Honestly, with those symptoms, I'd say bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. Probably looking at around 350€ for the repair. Better than cooking your engine!

Thanks a bunch for the insight! I was hoping to avoid the mechanic, but you're right, engine damage is a bigger worry. Looks like a new thermostat is in my future. I appreciate you sharing your Saab saga!
