Brake Issue on Mercedes CLK
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Mercedes CLK owner reported low brake fluid levels and unusual feedback through the brake pedal, suspecting brake wear. A similar issue in another vehicle was attributed to a slow leak in the hydraulic brakes, possibly around the brake lines or master cylinder. The master cylinder is crucial for maintaining brake pressure, and leaks can lead to a spongy brake pedal. The owner later confirmed that worn front brake pads and low brake fluid were the causes, which were resolved at a workshop.

Thanks for the reply. Could you explain 'the master cylinder' a bit more? I don't really know that part. What happens if there's a leak in the hydraulic brakes, and what could it damage?

The master cylinder is the core of your brake system. It's what forces the brake fluid through the lines when you hit the brake pedal. If the system leaks, you'll lose pressure, which is why the brake pedal feels spongy. I wouldn't drive it like that; take it to a workshop.

Thanks for the explanation; I get the leak issue now. I took the car to a workshop, and the front brake pads were worn, and the brake fluid was low because of it. The total for the brake repair and fluid was 480€ Thanks for the help.

I had a similar problem with my old Volvo. The brake pedal felt spongy, and the brake fluid was low. It ended up being a slow leak in the hydraulic brakes. Have you looked for any leaks around the brake lines or master cylinder?
