C2 Belt Tensioner Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Citroen C2 owner experienced a malfunction with the belt tensioner, suspected to be causing issues with the belt handover. The problem was identified as a failing tensioner, likely due to a weakened spring, causing the serpentine belt to slip and produce squealing noises. The recommended solution was to replace the entire tensioner assembly, which was confirmed and resolved at a workshop.

Squealing a bit when starting up, yeah. Serpentine belt makes sense. So, the entire tensioner pulley needs replacing, or just the pulley wheel part? Is there any way to check the tensioner's function?

If it's squealing, the whole tensioner assembly is likely failing. The spring inside probably weakened. There might be a way to check the tension with a special tool, but honestly, on the C2, it's often easier and safer just to replace the whole thing as one unit. I'd suggest going to a workshop.

Thanks for the help! I took it to a workshop and you were spot on. Bad belt tensioner. The repair set me back 455€, but at least it's fixed.

Yeah, I had something similar on my C2. Is it making any weird noises, like a squealing or chirping? The tensioner pulley might be shot. The 'belt-handover' you're referring to is probably the serpentine belt slipping because the tensioner isn't doing its job, keeping constant pressure on the belt.
