C2 transmission oil pressure sensor fault

I've got a 2009 Citroen C2, gasoline engine, with 123k km. Recently, the engine warning light came on, and I'm getting an error related to the transmission oil pressure sensor. The gearbox seems to be in some sort of emergency mode and the gear changes aren't as smooth as they used to be. I even heard a slight grinding noise the other day. Could it really just be low on oil?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my C2. Is the oil pressure gauge acting up too? Maybe check the transmission oil level; it could be something simple.

Interesting. You had the exact same symptoms? Did you top off the oil, and did that fix it? Where is the transmission oil sensor located?

Yeah, pretty much the same symptoms. I tried topping off the oil, but it didn't completely solve the problem, although it did improve things slightly. I think it's worth checking, but probably time to visit the workshop and get it checked properly. I think the sensor is somewhere near the gearbox housing, but honestly, I wouldn't poke around without knowing what you're doing. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the shop as you suggested. Turns out the transmission oil was indeed low, causing the sensor to throw a fault. They topped it up, checked for leaks, and replaced the sensor. Cost me 365€, but it's running smoothly again!
