C30 diesel particulate filter pressure error

I'm having an issue with my 2012 Volvo C30 diesel, which has 154997 km. A warning light is on, and I've noticed less engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell. Diagnostics say 'Diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low'. Could it be a defective exhaust back pressure sensor?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Volvo C30 diesel is experiencing reduced engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell, with diagnostics indicating a 'Diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low' error. The issue may be due to a defective exhaust back pressure sensor, which can cause incorrect readings and interfere with the diesel particulate filter's regeneration process. The suggested solution is to have a workshop perform a diagnostic check and potentially replace the faulty sensor, which resolved a similar issue in another case.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I have a C30 as well, although I'm not sure of the year, and had similar symptoms not long ago. Did you notice any difference with DPF regeneration? Mine was constantly trying to regenerate. Do you know when the particulate filter was checked last?

Thanks. I haven't specifically monitored the DPF regeneration, but I did notice the engine idling higher than usual sometimes. I don't know when the particulate filter was last checked. Would the regeneration attempts or a clogged filter trigger the 'exhaust pressure too low' error?

In my case, the constant regeneration attempts and the reduced power pointed to a faulty sensor. The 'exhaust pressure too low' error was the key. The ECU gets wrong readings, and that messes with regeneration. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop; they can confirm with diagnostics. You could try cleaning the sensor, but it didn't help on my car, and I ended up replacing it.

Understood. I appreciate the insight; it matches my suspicion. I'll schedule a workshop appointment for a diagnostic check and potential sensor replacement. The repair cost came to 245€; it was indeed the exhaust back pressure sensor.
