C4 Overheating Speed Sensor Suspected
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Citroen C4 diesel was experiencing overheating with the check engine light on, despite the coolant level being fine. The owner suspected the radiator fan might be the issue and questioned if a defective speed sensor could be the cause. It was suggested that a faulty speed sensor could prevent the fan from activating properly, leading to overheating. After visiting a workshop, it was confirmed that the speed sensor was indeed the problem, and replacing it resolved the issue.

No, I didn't notice any unusual fan noise, which is strange. Is it possible that even without the noise, the speed sensor is the issue, or should I be looking at other components of the cooling system?

While the absence of noise does make it trickier, a faulty speed sensor preventing the fan from kicking in at the right time definitely aligns with the overheating symptoms. Think of it like a conductor without a baton – the cooling system doesn't know when to cool. Given that, and the check engine light, I'd strongly suggest a workshop visit. They can pinpoint it exactly.

Thanks for the insight! I took it to the workshop, and you were right. It was indeed the speed sensor. Replaced it, and the fan is working perfectly now. Total cost was around 250€.

That sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, though it was a petrol engine. The temperature gauge would creep up, especially in traffic. In my case, it also turned out to be an issue with the cooling system. Was there any unusual fan noise before this started happening?
