C5 Belt Handover Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Citroen C5 with a gasoline engine is experiencing reduced performance, traced to a problem with the belt drive area, specifically the belt-handover. The issue is suspected to be a defective belt bringer/handover. A similar problem in another vehicle was caused by a faulty tensioner pulley, leading to engine power loss. The recommended solution is to inspect the tensioner or idler pulley for wear and consider professional repair to prevent further damage, such as to the timing belt.

Interesting, thanks for the quick response! I'll have to take a closer look. When you say 'weirdness', what exactly did you experience? And how did you diagnose it was the tensioner?

The Volvo was losing power, kind of like yours. It's hard to explain. Like the engine was tired. The mechanic spotted the tensioner wobble right away. If your belt-handover isn't working, I'd bet a worn tensioner or idler pulley is the culprit. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. It may damage the timing belt.

Thanks, that's really helpful! I had it checked out, and you were spot on. Turns out the belt tensioner was shot. The whole job, including parts and labor, came to 455€. Ouch! But at least it's fixed now.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Volvo a while back. Tensioner pulley went bad, and it caused all sorts of weirdness with the belt. Is the tensioner pulley or idler pulley looking wobbly or making any strange noises?
