C5 Brake Fluid Warning Spongy Pedal
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Citroen C5 hybrid exhibited a brake fluid warning light and a spongy brake pedal, raising concerns about worn brakes. The symptoms suggested that low brake fluid might be due to worn brake pads, as fluid levels drop to compensate for pad wear. It was advised to check the pad thickness and consult a professional if unsure. Upon inspection, worn brakes were confirmed, and the issue was resolved with a brake fluid replacement.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the pad thickness myself yet. Is it something I can easily do, or do I need special tools? I am a novice with car repairs.

It's doable, but honestly, if you're not confident, best leave it to a pro. Brakes are kinda important! If the fluid's low and the pedal's spongy, topping up the fluid is just a band-aid if the pads are shot. Like putting more air in a tire with a nail in it. I'd get it checked asap.

You were spot on. Took it to the shop, and it was worn brakes as we suspected. Cost me 480€, including brake fluid replacement. Thanks for the advice!

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms on my old Volvo V70. Low brake fluid can definitely be a sign of worn brake pads. As the pads wear, the fluid level drops to compensate in the reservoir. Have you checked the pad thickness?
