C70 Electronic Parking Brake Failure

My 2009 Volvo C70 with a gasoline engine has an electronic parking brake that's stopped working. No response, error message, and a warning light on the dash. Haven't started diagnosing yet.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had almost the EXACT same thing happen last year with my old BMW 3 Series. Electronic parking brakes are the devil, I swear. Same symptoms – brake light, error message, the whole shebang. I'm no mechanic, but did you happen to check the brake switch? Or maybe the brake control module? It's a long shot, but worth a peek before you start tearing things apart.

Could you elaborate on the specific fault in your BMW's parking brake system, and what you did to diagnose it?

Happy to! Turns out on my BMW it was a dodgy sensor throwing everything off and the parking brake going into safety mode. Best advice I can give? Get it hooked up to a proper diagnostic machine. Save yourself a ton of guesswork (and potential wallet damage) and let the pros tell you what's really going on. Could be something simple, could be a gremlin hiding in the system like when you see a bug in software! Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the advice. I had it professionally diagnosed, and it was a defective electric motor in the brake calliper. The repair cost 505€, which is what I expected.
