Cadillac Engine Knocking + Oil Light Warning Signs

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Cadillac. Had nearly identical issues with my VW Caddy a few months back, engine noise and oil pressure warning light. Turned out my oil pressure sensor was faulty and triggering false warnings, but during inspection they also found the oil pump needed replacement due to worn components affecting oil viscosity and flow. Just curious, what did the full repair end up costing you? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix? Mine was a pretty expensive lesson in not ignoring warning lights, but at least we caught it before any serious engine bearings damage occurred.

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. After having the oil pump failure fixed at a specialized shop, the total came to 755€ including parts and labor. The engine oil pressure issue was completely resolved and the engine is running perfectly quiet now, no more bearing noise or warning lights. Its been about 6 months since the repair and maintaining proper oil pressure has prevented any engine bearings deterioration. During the fix they also performed a full oil change using the correct viscosity oil, which helped ensure optimal performance of the new pump. The investment was worth it to prevent catastrophic engine damage. Regular oil changes and pressure checks are now part of my maintenance routine to avoid similar issues. The mechanic explained that catching these problems early saved significant repair costs compared to complete engine failure. The Cadillac runs like new after addressing the low oil pressure problem. No regrets about getting it properly diagnosed and repaired, even though the bill was substantial.

After dealing with those scary engine noises and oil pressure warnings, I finally got everything sorted. Took it to a different mechanic who actually listened to my concerns. The diagnostic check revealed both a failing oil pump and a faulty pressure sensor, exactly what you experienced. Total repair came to 890€ including a new oil pump, sensor, and complete oil change with the correct oil viscosity. They also inspected the engine bearings which thankfully showed no damage thanks to catching it early. Been three weeks since the repair and the engine runs perfectly quiet now. No more warning lights or concerning noises. Learned my lesson about taking oil pressure warnings seriously, could have ended up with major engine damage if I had kept driving it. At least now I know what to watch for and have found a reliable mechanic. Planning to stick to regular oil changes and pressure checks to prevent any future issues.

Had similar symptoms on my 2011 Cadillac CTS with the 3.6L engine. The oil pressure sensor started giving false readings, but the noise turned out to be a failing oil pump. This combination of symptoms typically indicates serious oil pressure problems that need immediate attention. The main signs were identical, engine bearing noise especially during cold starts and the oil pressure warning light coming on intermittently. Initial checks showed the engine oil level was fine but the oil pressure was dangerously low when tested with a mechanical gauge. Diagnosis revealed the oil pump had excessive wear, reducing pressure to the engine bearings. The repair required removing the oil pan and replacing the pump assembly. This was definitely a serious issue since continued driving could have led to complete engine failure. Would strongly advise against driving the vehicle until properly diagnosed. Low oil pressure can destroy engine bearings within minutes. Its worth getting a second opinion from another shop, specifically requesting they check: Actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, Oil pump condition, Oil filter clogged status, Engine oil viscosity rating, Engine bearing clearances These symptoms almost always indicate a mechanical problem rather than just a sensor issue.
