Cadillac STS Oil Warning Light Problems & Solutions

Having issues with my 2008 Cadillac STS where multiple warning lights are acting up. The oil pressure warning keeps coming on in the speedometer cluster, along with other warning lights and error messages. The error is also stored in the system memory. I suspect a faulty oil detection system or bad oil level sensor might be causing these false readings. Has anyone else dealt with similar oil monitoring issues on their STS? Would like to know what parts needed replacing and rough repair costs before heading to a workshop. The engine itself seems to run fine, but these warnings are concerning.

Having some experience working on cars, I encountered a similar issue with my 2006 Cadillac CTS. The oil sensor issue and multiple warning lights were nearly identical to what you are describing. After proper diagnostics, it turned out the cable connection to the oil pressure sensor was damaged, causing intermittent false readings in the oil detection system. The repair involved replacing the wiring harness connector and ensuring proper connectivity to the sensor. Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor. The good news is that when the engine runs smoothly despite these warnings, it often points toward a sensor issue rather than an actual oil pressure problem. However, its always best to have it checked promptly, as oil pressure warnings should never be ignored. Could you share: Current mileage on your STS, Whether the warning lights come on immediately at startup or after driving, If you notice any engine noise when the warnings appear, Whether youve had any recent oil changes or maintenance This information would help determine if your situation matches what I experienced with the sensor connectivity problem.

Thanks for the detailed response. My STS just hit 24843 KM and had its scheduled maintenance about 6 months ago. To answer your questions about the automotive oil warnings, they typically appear after driving for about 15-20 minutes, never right at startup. There's no unusual engine noise when the oil signal appears. The oil gauge readings seem erratic, which strengthens your theory about a sensor issue rather than actual oil problems. The symptoms you described with the wiring harness match my situation pretty closely. A 95€ repair cost for car maintenance sounds much better than what I was worried about. Will have the sensor connections checked first before exploring other options.

Thanks for those extra details, it definitely sounds like we had the identical oil sensor issue. The timing of the warnings appearing after 15-20 minutes perfectly matches what I experienced with my CTS. The erratic oil gauge readings combined with no engine noise strongly points to a sensor or wiring problem rather than actual oil pressure concerns. After my repair, I learned these oil monitoring systems can act up when wire connections degrade over time. The 6-month timeframe since your last maintenance means this likely developed gradually. In my case, the mechanic found slight corrosion at the sensor connection point that was causing the intermittent false readings. One quick check you can do: gently wiggle the wiring near the oil pressure sensor while the engine is running. If this causes the warning lights to flicker, it confirms the wiring harness connection needs attention. Given your mileage and symptoms match my experience so closely, I would bet you are dealing with the same sensor connectivity issue. The repair should be straightforward and cost-effective, likely in the same 95€ range I paid.

Thank you all for the help. Just did the wiring check suggested and noticed the warning lights definitely flickered when touching those connections. This really confirms the faulty sensor diagnosis. Going to schedule the repair next week to fix the oil monitoring system. The matching symptoms and similar year model give me confidence its the same issue. Really relieved its likely just a sensor problem rather than something major with the engine. The 95€ repair cost is much more manageable than what I initially feared. Will report back after the repair to confirm if replacing the wiring harness and checking the sensor connections resolved these oil pressure warnings. This information could help others dealing with similar warning light issues in their car maintenance routine.
