Cadillac XT4 ABS Failure Points to Bad Sensor

Looking for advice on my 2019 XT4 showing ABS system failure. The warning light stays on and the diagnostic scan shows faults in the error memory. I suspect a faulty lateral acceleration sensor might be causing issues with the vehicle stability system. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? What specific repairs were needed to resolve this? The electronic stability control seems compromised and Im concerned about safety implications. Would appreciate hearing about repair costs and time required for this fix from those whove dealt with it before.

Back in 2021, I had a very similar issue with my 2017 XT5, which shares many electronic control components with your model. With some experience working on Cadillac electronics, I can tell you these symptoms often point to a control unit problem. The vehicle stability system in my case showed identical warning patterns, constant ABS light and multiple fault codes. After the diagnostic scan, the workshop confirmed the steering angle sensor was communicating incorrectly with the main control unit, affecting the yaw rate measurements. The fix required replacing the defective control unit, as recalibration attempts were unsuccessful. Total repair cost was 1000€, including programming and testing. The workshop needed 2 days to complete everything, mainly due to parts delivery time. Before suggesting specific solutions for your case, could you share: Current mileage, Any recent repairs or modifications, Whether the issue appeared suddenly or gradually, If you notice any other warning lights, Weather conditions when the problem occurs This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with my XT5.

Thanks for sharing those details about steering angle sensor issues. My XT4 just had its service at 43730 KM, and the traction control problems started shortly after. While driving, the electronic stability warning activates out of nowhere), even in dry conditions. The ABS and lateral sensor errors persist regardless of weather or driving style. What concerns me is the safety warning keeps triggering even during normal driving. The mechanic mentioned potential interference with multiple electronic control systems. Would clearing the error codes first be worth trying before replacing parts?

The error code clearing alone likely wont solve your underlying issue. When my XT5 displayed similar symptoms after service, temporary fixes like resetting codes only masked the problem temporarily. Given the timing after your service, its worth checking if the wheel alignment was adjusted, as this can affect the steering angle sensor calibration. In my case, the electronic stability system started misbehaving because the lateral sensor and steering angle measurements were out of sync with actual vehicle movement. The yaw rate sensor readings became unreliable, causing those unusual stability control activations you mentioned. If your symptoms mirror mine, the root cause is likely in the communication between sensors rather than individual component failure. Before committing to expensive parts replacement, request a complete diagnostic scan focusing on: Lateral acceleration sensor values, Steering angle calibration status, Wheel speed sensor readings, Electronic stability control module communication These tests cost around 150€ but save money long-term by pinpointing the exact issue. The unusual triggering during normal driving matches what I experienced before the control unit replacement. Based on your mileage and symptoms, I suspect either a sensor calibration issue or failing control module similar to what I encountered. Have you noticed any changes in steering feel or brake pedal response?

Thanks for the detailed explanation about diagnostic testing. To answer your question, yes, I have noticed the brake pedal feels slightly different, more rigid than usual. The traction control warning comes on most noticeably during gentle turns, which aligns with your theory about misaligned sensor readings. I will request those specific diagnostic tests you mentioned. The unusual stability control activation during normal driving is my biggest concern, especially since I do a lot of highway driving. Since the issue started right after service, I will also have them verify if any wheel alignment work could have triggered these problems. Do you think I should avoid driving the vehicle until getting the diagnostic scan focused on those sensor systems? The unpredictable behavior of the electronic stability control makes me nervous about safety, even though the basic braking still works. Just want to be cautious given the potential risks.
